A great choice for memory care
Facility requires memory care residents to come with own furniture, bedding, and hand towels. Bed frames should not have any casters. Staff are helpful. I highly recommend Country Lane.

About the facility
Country Lane Retirement Village

The Bob & Bernadine Walnofer family found there was a need for more retirement options in the O’Neill area so they decided to build a 36-room, nearly 34,000 sq ft new senior living campus that includes independent living cottages, assisted living apartments, and memory care suites. They turned their passion for family into a passion for seniors in their retirement years.

Country Lane Retirement Village’s mission is to provide exceptional care to our Residents with faith and family as our core values. Our focus is on creating a supportive and nurturing environment where God is acknowledged as our provider of our physical, spiritual, and emotional fortitude. In turn, we honor Him by creating a legacy of unity, trust, and love.

Through this mission, we strive to provide comfortable retirement living options that allow seniors to age in place through care provided by a compassionate and skilled care team

Review for Country Lane Retirement Village
It took us a while, to get a bed that was suitable, and have to supply all furniture, bedding and hand towels and wash cloths. The staff is very helpful. Overall, I would recommend to other families.

I am still living in one of the cottages at Country Lane Retirement Village. I moved in here on [date removed] of last year. I am very happy here. There is such a varied group of people here and each person has his/her own needs but we all seem to blend together The staff does a remarkable job of meeting each of us with our individual needs. I never thought I wanted to live in an "old people's home" because of the institutionalized living I thought it would force me into. Living in one of the cottages gives me complete freedom as to when and where I go and yet the help is there when I need it. The meals are wonderful. I choose to eat hot oatmeal in my cottage each morning and then I go to the main dining room for lunch and supper. Even though I don't live in the main building, I still feel like a part of the community and I have made good friends here. This kind of living suits my needs perfectly and I am very happy here. There is a resident [name removed], who has had a stroke. Because of the help they need in feeding themselves and the inability they have in knowing what they need, the resident makes all of the other residents feel uncomfortable. We have tried to help this resident but we are told to leave the resident's needs to the staff. I have a feeling that this resident's daughter has asked the staff to treat them as one of the gang but with the impairments this person suffers with are not going to allow them to be normal. The staff is frustrated, the other residents see this resident's needs and want to help but we don't have the expertise. It seems that the resident's daughter is expecting things from their loved one that are not going to happen and yet the resident keeps pushing for a normal life again. I think there needs to be something set in place in a case like this where the administrative staff consults with the family representative on what is possible, not what would be ideal.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Nebraska regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Nebraska regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored Country Lane Retirement Village 8.9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
