So, my mom was not actually able to move in. Unfortunately, a few days prior to her being moved to your community, she went into the hospital and did not recover. However, I will say that I had with people as well as my research into other communities, I would give your community a five on every category except numbers four and five. Obviously, I cannot comment about those two because my mom did not ever stay there. I cannot say how appreciative I was of all the support that I received from the administrative staff. They were very flexible, very informative, and emotionally supportive, even though my mom was not even there.

Very pleasant and very helpful
I only had difficulty with one worker but it was addressed and my stay was very pleasant. I would recommend this place to anyone who would be interested in a stay. In fact if I ever need to go to for another stay i would definitely apply again. Plenty of activities to do during the day.

Friendly, hard working staff
What we like the most about the community is the staff. The staff is aways friendly when i come and visit. I am there multiple times each week. Based on the experience we have had so far, I would recommend this community to other families

Overall Nice Community
My loved one is satisfied with all of the categories that are listed with the exception of the meals and dining service - that is a rating of 1 in his opinion. We would recommend this community to other families, but only if they are not Italian and used to really good food.

Our Experience
I would not recommend this facility to other families. There are some nice employees there, but overall the staff is evasive and unproductive. We have had an ongoing problem with the staff since Mom moved in. She has a special care need that hasn't been taken care of for almost a year now and her hygiene has dropped significantly. My family and I have raised this issue with management no less than 10 times and nothing is ever done about it. After the 6th or 7th time of us bringing this to their attention, they found the issue: they weren't charging us enough for that "level" of care, even though at move-in we were assured that the need was a blip on the radar and didn't change mom's level of care needs. They then lied and said it did require an increase in care and even with that increase months ago they still have not provided the care. The head of nursing, [name removed], is vindictive and shoots me daggers every time she sees me there. So, my family and I are paying a ton of money and still are required to perform mom's care.
The food is okay. Not great. Not horrible. But it's consistent. Communication with the family is almost nonexistent. Some staff are very nice. Others, I wouldn't hire them to take out the trash. Housekeeping was a mess for 6 months, where we were paying for laundry service and they weren't doing it. We got that corrected, thankfully. The move-in was relatively simple. But we were promised a level of care that doesn't exist.

exceptional staff, so far so good, happy family member
The facility is not overwhelming big, its clean and doesn't smell. The staff is really nice. Staff in kitchen go above and beyond with giving my mom treats and wrapping her unfinished food to take to her apt. House keeping does a good job each day cleaning up moms room.
Ill give the staff a 5 at this time. I really like VSL and so does my mom. They said she is an asset for their community

Understaffed
The executives here recruited us knowing our mother had dementia and said they could provide everything a memory care center could. We found out immediately that was untrue, they were severely understaffed and in the month our mom lived there, she RARELY saw the same side twice. The staff she were per diem, from an outside agency, and did not know our mom or her needs. Most never even knew she had dementia or the kind of help she needed (assistance with ALL activities of daily living). Response time to emergency alert button was APPALLING (30 minutes to an hour, if AT ALL). She got lost trying to get to the dining room on her own, and staff told us while laughing, as if having dementia is a joke. We visited every day and found her in deplorable conditions each time. Executive Director was never around, was out on family leave, and the head nurse would not or could not understand our concerns. We left when my mom was hospitalized for pneumonia. We received a full refund and an apology.

Our experience with Voorhees Senior Living
My loved one is a resident at Voorhees Senior Living. This facility is not as expensive as others in the area. We have found that many Assisted Living facilities are over priced, even this one for what they provide. This facility needs to pay more attention to the caliber of staff that they hire. The facility itself is a very well constructed building with beautiful grounds.

Good experience from a family member's point of view
For our loved one who is used to eating frozen dinners, they seem to like the meals. The people are nice and the place is clean and they can handle my father's personality, so I guess I would recommend to other families.. But again, the price of these places are so expensive that the idea of value is hard to nail down.

Overall a nice community
One thing our loved one likes is that her room is right next to the nurses station which is convenient due to our loved ones vision loss. She really is enjoying the meals they prepared. We have had a couple issues with the miscommunication regarding the level of care but they are working on fixing the issue which we appreciate.

VSL, a Medical Doctor’s Perspective
There is a genuine overall commitment to customer service and medical care @ VSL.
As a Medical Doctor I sleep well at night knowing that my Mom’s meds, PT, & emergencies have been professionally managed well x 5 yrs.
VSL was great during the pandemic. In light of current vaccinations of the staff & residents, one should not be hesitant to have your loved one’s physical, nutritional, social, emotional & spiritual needs met by the VSL caregivers & become part of the “VSL Family.”
My mom is 95 y/o & she never wants to leave! She loves the crafts, BINGO, singing, piano playing, local Olympic events, celebration of holidays & the monthly MD visit in her room. The driver of the van is great for taking my Mom to medical specialty & dental appointments when I am out of state.
Do take a tour like I did 5 years ago & talk to the very friendly & amazing staff, especially the admin director and director of nursing. Then, admit your loved one, sleep well at night & visit as often as you can!

We went with Voorhees Senior Living because of the value for the money and friendliness of the staff members. During covid, they have been doing window visits with our loved ones. If cases were low we were able to do outside/inside visits. Overall, I would recommend this facility to others looking.
