Caregivers Great, Facility Services Poor

As a resident I needed caregivers assistance in the beginning, fortunately it’s no longer required. The facility lacks good services not related to care. There’s no water at all today, noticed at 9:40. No advance notice given so no idea how long it will be off. There was no hot water from 8/30-9/17 & 11/20 for half a day. Also my bedroom ceiling fan lost blades for 6 months until down to 1 before it was replaced. The one telephone line isn’t answered consistently. My biggest problems are tv errors and loss of half the channels. This has been going on since [Date removed]The errors take the whole screen and occur every 30-60 seconds on ALL channels. They finally had the tv service provider out who told them they needed to upgrade the equipment. The channels were restored twice but took weeks for help. Other resident residents have reported having tv problems too. Not worth the money!

Azalea Gardens is a beautiful community. Meeting with [name removed] was a wonderful experience. It has not been an easy process looking for placement for mother. [name removed] was patient, knowledgeable, and provided me with a wealth of information and resources. I recommend this community to anyone who is looking for friendly service, a courteous director, and clean environment. The caregivers are warm and helpful. A lovely place for aging adults.

Family Experience

Administrative staff 1 they charge her a lay fee and some type of credit card fee. When they had permission to withdraw the funds from her account but still charged. Her and never refunded the money. They? Take the money out super late in the month and then charge a late fee. She doesn't eat their food. She doesn't participate. Value for the money: kind of expensive

Been a very positive relocation

We have never had any experience with personal care homes and we were getting quite concerned with where or if we were going to find a suitable place for my wife’s sister. Most of the places seemed to have an add on charge for everything and given her budget would have made it near impossible to make sure we could cover the cost each month. We had not gone to check out Azalea Gardens because we had heard it was well outside our price range. Then [name removed] kinda pushed us just to give them a look. Boy, are we glad she did! Her sister has been there for going on two months and all we can say is it’s the best thing we could done for her. It is a very active community and she is actually thriving there. The staff has been very helpful and professional in every way. I am so glad we checked it out especially since it’s just minutes from our house. My sister is only 53, and has brain cancer. She fits right in with the all residents!

Attentive staff

I would suggest Azalea Gardens for those persons 80 years old or olde. The majority of the population living there appears to be that age and up, and the activities are more suited for older seniors rather than persons younger. The staff is friendly and attentive to those needing assistance. The rooms are spacious with good closer space.

Great community but needs some improvements

I do like that they have special celebrations and try to engage all residents. I think they could do better with the food. I also feel they could do better with attending to a sick resident as needed.

Did not meet expectations

Not safe. Not enough workers. Was promised many things and nothing was carried out. Medical care was not offered. No activities. Residents were over medicated and left to sit at tables. Most of care was substandard with exception of two or three care givers.

Not What it Once Was

My mom lived there for a year and really enjoyed it at first. Had to move her recently to a higher care facility. The new owners replaced most of the wonderful staff one by one, and things have gone downhill since new management. VERY sad! Mom fractured her back and went from hospital to a short term rehab. Was gone 4 weeks, then I decided she needed to move and gave 30 day notice. They not only charged her for every meal she was unable to go to dining room to eat, but despite my asking, they charged her additional $[removed]. For medication management for 2 months she was not there. My email requests to get this deducted went unanswered. Before she left some items were also stolen from her room. Not major value, but things I had purchased a day before, and the next day they were gone. The med techs there are very caring and nice, but the management is out to get every dollar they can. Food was average and a few residents told me they were wanting to relocate. I do not recommend.

Dont look any further

There was no odor. It felt like a home. They have a special enclosed area with a garden, bird feeders, and there is entertainment outside on porch. They have field trips on the bus, bingo, nail painting, art, music appreciation, movies, and football. It's just great. They have a memory center and it was an effortless transition for my friend. Its extemly well run. A nurse and nurse practitioner is on duty. Any issues that residents have is addressed immediately. Every is well taken care of. The Executive Director knows every single resident by name and interacts with the family.

Staff is very personable

We had seen a few other communities in person, and we were actually not able to see this one in person due to the covid restrictions. However, the staff was very consistent with reaching out to us, checking on how our family is doing during the decision process. They were not pushy and that ultimately made our choice. They offer a lot of great activities and do a good job keeping the residents active and engaged. We definitely think the value for cost is worth it.

Our family had a virtual experience and Atria was up in our top two choices. The staff was really nice and knowledgeable, but we were just not really sold on the building itself. The accommodating were just not as feasible as the other community we were looking at, and the bathrooms here just had a chair in the shower, when the other community had a bench built into the wall that we liked better.

Our family had a virtual tour and the community was extremely cautious because it was during the height of the pandemic which is why it was virtual. We can appreciate a community that wants to keep their residents safe. We felt the rooms were nice, and the kitchen had a good preparation space, but the kitchen was smaller and did not have all the appliances.

Fantastic

The people here are just beyond wonderful. The activities are constant, even throughout the pandemic. The staff genuinely want to be there, and they genuinely care for the people. Every time I've been to the facility, it's been spotless. It doesn't smell like a facility, with heavy ammonia or anything. The place itself doesn't look like assisted living so to speak. It's homey and fresh looking, with wood furniture that's always polished. They even do my loved one's laundry Really the only problem with Atria is the food. My loved one tells me it's tasteless, with no variety.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Georgia’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Georgia’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.
