Easing Into Assisted Living

A Place for Mom was fast after I entered my friend [name removed] information online. Someone called after only a few minutes, asked for a few more details, and provided a list of 5 assisted living facilities within the specified location and price range. We visited the closest to my friend's sister -Carriages at Mt. Zion, Jonesboro. The price was what [name removed] could afford, he would share a suite with another resident, and his needs assessment revealed just how much assistance my friend needed. The bedrooms are just large enough for a bed, nightstand, and chest. The shared bathroom is adequate. The common room is rarely used since both residents usually stay in their beds. [name removed] large recliner is there, but TVs are in bedrooms. My friend says the food is good and the other residents are very friendly. He has complained that they don't always bring his medications, but I think he forgets. We were told the facility had a podiatrist that visited and also a psychiatrist. Nothing on those yet. My friend could also use a referral to an orthopedist for knee replacement. [name removed] sister checks in weekly. He did schedule and received a shave and haircut. Maintenance people, care staff, front desk people- all are very calm and friendly. I haven't visited when activities are planned, but [name removed] probably won't go unless someone comes to get him. That will take time. Thank goodness for METV, old westerns, and game shows. [name removed] is at least satisfied, resigned to life without driving or walking comfortably, not lonely, and being checked on regularly.

Our family's experience

We are very pleased with The Carriages everyone there is very nice. We feel that our mom is being taken care of And after a couple weeks of adjusting she is getting even more comfortable there. The only thing that I wish was a little better is the communication I wish there were more updates on her care I usually have to contact the facility to find out how she's doing but they explained that we would hear from them if anything was wrong. My mother just said that the food is not enough and it's cut up in pieces which she doesn't need that( but a lot of residents need that due to dental issues) there is another menu she can order from but she just forgets to do that.

Our family experience

The folks there have been outstanding. Communication is good. Facilities are clean and tidy. They have been patient and accommodating of my mother in law as she enters assisted living for the first time. Food has been good and portion size is reasonable

The Carriages of Mt. Zion

There has recently been some staffing issues but they are working on getting a full complement of care providers back in place. Another issue is the quality of the food. It's not bad and may be nutritious but the taste and presentation leaves something to be desired. Overall it is good and far better than others we have visited. Unfortunately I either was misinformed or misunderstood and when I signed the lease agreement as "responsible party" I anticipated that my Financial POA was to have my family member to be the one who "paid the bills" but that is not the case so now I am being expected to be responsible for the payments. I am hoping to work with their financial manager and management to have the paperwork re-signed to reverse this ASAP. All in all, the staff are great and very friendly. The facility is clean and kept decorated according to the season. The maintenance staff is a little behind on my work order requests, but I am assured they will come soon to make the few repairs needed.

Memory Care lacking staff

The room is fine. And the facility is clean and taken care of. The memory care needs more staff. One person is not enough to care for those residents. So often, the residents are bored, sit in a chair all day, little to no activities. The large amount we pay for our loved one, we should have the better more personable and friendly care. The Assisted Living part is good. But Memory care for sure needs some help. Not all of the residents are mobile on their own, so there should at the very least be two people working this wing at all times. Thank You.

The BEST ever

The experience was amazing. The staff loving, caring, supportive, and family oriented. The residents and staff became family, the community was full of joy and happiness. My mom enjoyed her stay, still independent and having her own space was spectacular. I will tell the world how great Carriage Crossing of Mt. Zion was to my mother.

Comfort and Care

Mom loves it there! She enjoys the many activities and trips to the mall. She still has her “independence”, but she has a team that keeps her on track with her meds or anything else she may need! We appreciate the fact that they have a physician to visit the facilities as opposed to the families having to take time off. There are many conveniences that help alleviate a lot of stress. The staff is remarkable! Thank you for being so amazing and supportive.

Carriage Crossing Memory Care was a perfect place for my Mom. She received great care and everyone knew her at the facility. The staff became a part of the family. It is not easy to place a person in a care facility, but Carriage took the concerns away. We were always well informed of my Mom's status. They helped us above and beyond.

They care!

The memory care is wonderful. The residents are cared for by a very loving staff. Everyone of the staff members knows what is going on. They keep family informed of any changes or needs. The supplies that you bring for your loved one goes into the closet in their room and are only used for your loved one. The food is very tasty and nutritious. They give top notch care with love. They have activities, meals, and lots of rest. I can not thank the staff enough for taking care of my Mom. She always looked good and was happy and comfortable. Thank you a place for Mom for helping me find Carriage Crossing and Thank you Carriage crossing for the great care and love you gave my Mom.

Memory Care for your loved one

Very difficult getting medication to my loved one through their insurance. This a problem with outside facility as well as this one. The staff are friendly and polite. I have never tried the food, so I am not sure of the quality. Memory Care has few activities due to the needs of the residents in their care. The cost is high considering we have to furnish the room and everything our loved one may need. The cost covers room, food, and staff to care for the residents. The facility is clean and they keep up with laundry. For the type of care that they do, they are very good. I feel they are a little under staffed in the Memory Care unit. I would recommend them to other families.

Good company to work with (although they are in the process of being bought out).

The facility is clean every time I go to visit. My family member complains about the food, and he says he washes his own bedclothes before they get to it. But the food looks very good to me, and I think they do a good job overall. I appreciate that they are willing to reevaluate care needs and lower care level and cost when appropriate.
