Columbus Alzheimer's Care Center displayed compassionate dedication to my mother's happiness, safety, and comfort during the final two years of her life. Everyone who works there is full of empathy, passion, and kindness, all in their own ways. The nursing staff clearly values the resident

Highly recommend!
Columbus Alzheimer's Care Center displayed compassionate dedication to my mother's happiness, safety, and comfort during the final two years of her life. Everyone who works there is full of empathy, passion, and kindness, all in their own ways. The nursing staff clearly values the resident's quality of life in addition to their health and safety. Staff such as maintenance, reception, and cleaning all care about the residents so much – you can just tell that everyone knows everyone there. The range and amount of activities they have for residents is remarkable, and all of the birthday, holiday, and miscellaneous celebrations are fun and inclusive of everyone. I was blown away by all of the big and small ways the people at Columbus Alzheimer's Care Center cared about my mom. I would absolutely recommend considering their facility for your loved one's needs.

Not here
Please do not put your loved one here! My father's health declined rapidly under their care. He had many injuries, lost a great deal of weight, and was very heavily medicated. He went into the facility, a healthy man with alzheimer's, and died 4 months later with infected wounds all over his body. There are better, safer options.

Very accommodating staff
Although I don't think my loved one's care needs are a great fit for the facility, they've always done a great job doing what they can to accommodate her. The facility itself is always clean and well kept, and the staff are all very friendly, professional, and easy to get in touch with.

The dietary specialist has been there...
The dietary specialist has been there 12 years - Secure environment with magnet security system which notifies front desk if a door has been opened without clearance- cannot be cleared until it is known who and why it was opened. Calm colors and wood floors - open hallways - initial feeling in lobby clean and open- positive. Interactions noted with residents and staff all very gentle and positive - gently guiding them away from doors - using their names - Rooms fairly clear of most additional stuff except where families have brought in chests or pictures - long hallways in this facility that those staying there can roam freely at all times (one younger resident appeared to be jogging) - they can rest or sleep on couch if wish - wear what they would like (many in socks) - all brought to dining room for meals (two separate eating areas) outside courtyard where they can garden a bit - a childcare center in the facility which 1 time a week interacts with the residents in crafts, etc. Have physical therapy available on site - believe in lessening medication levels as the disease progresses - allow great freedom within bounds which lessens the chance of agitation - a Nursing home - two wings (one smaller) and one more open - large area in center for activities and just sitting about. When I came there was a large circle of residents playing what appeared to be a game of "kick ball" with a large light ball with an activities director in the middle directing - several seemed engaged as they tried to hit or kick the ball back to her - "oldie" music playing most of the time in the background - for the most part smells very good - They only have Alzheimers and Dementia patients and they range from early onset to final stages. Tour guide shared with me that a couple had been in other nursing facilities and could not walk or were left sitting all the time and barely able to move - and she pointed out as therapy was given and time passed how much they were able to do at this time as they were moving about. - Since this is the first tour the rating is based upon that - may move up depending on additional visits.

A Place for Mom has scored Columbus Alzheimer's Care Center 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
