Review for Floyd Senior Living
Nice place. Very nice staff. Was a level of care we weren't quite ready to put Mom in yet. Was a little out of budget, and didn't accept Medicare in case that was a need later on.

Visited in 2019 and again recently. Things are worse. Staff was rude. Community fee was too high and rent was outrageous for what they offer.

Horrible
But my significant other in there and August for a week took him out in five days. Did not help him adjust to his new surroundings he fell four times. Never made sure he took his meds just left them in a cup by the bed.

We chose Floyd Place because we had a budget and they fit that budget. We were able to have a virtual tour before my dad could see it and they he did his own virtual tour. The fact that they value military veterans was a big deal to him. They have a wall that has their pictures and they get a plaque by their doors. That little touch really helped him know there were other veterans there that he could relate to. They do have a nice variety of activities provided. The room sizes here are adequate, it is great for what he is paying. The facility is a smaller community so the staff are more attentive and it is in a safe neighborhood. I would recommend to others looking.

Unfortunately the Corporation has Ruined a Once Beautiful Community.
As a family member, who's loved one still resides in this community, it has become an unreliable and unfriendly place. Since they fired an amazing director and the best staff left because of it, it is a barren place without personality or character. They had to deal with a Covid infection without the support of the corporate people that were supposed to help. Several residents passed away and corporate attempted to misplace the blame. I would have once recommended this community to anyone who asked about it but is just a shell of what it once was. I will be moving my grandmother very soon to another community within the Sioux City area. Horrible place. Do not send your family here.

Thank you Floyd Place Staff
We needed a place for my dad on short notice and Floyd Place was helpful in expediting that process. Although COVID-19 is an issue for everyone at this point, the staff are all taking proper precautions with all residents and finding ways, within the CDC rulings, to have the family visit. The staff at Floyd Place are extremely friendly and supportive of both the residents and their families. We, the family, are informed about events, new CDC protocols, and so forth. My dad calls me every night to report how his day went and he starts by reporting the pleasant manner of the staff, especially [names removed] and the quality nursing staff. He then describes his interactions with his cohorts at the Floyd Place, which is highly beneficial to have people you can relate to that are close to your own age. He is a military veteran and there are others with this same experience so they can share stories. He then proceeds to tell me what he had for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and what he chose on the menu for the next day. He loves having these food choices and tells me the chef cooks delicious meals! Thank you to the staff at Floyd Place for offering a special place for my dad.

A Great Gem!
After my dad passed away suddenly, my siblings and I needed a place for our mom. Floyd Place was very welcoming and caring toward her from the very beginning. The nursing staff was especially patient with her and helped her with her daily living needs. It made me rest easy at night knowing that she was taken care of by caring and kind people. My mom has certainly enjoyed her time at Floyd Place and has made some wonderful friends there. I am glad we found this gem!

Found in a Pinch, Perfect place to call home!
We needed a place for mom in short notice and when we found Floyd Place we knew we had found the perfect place. From the initial visit the staff was very friendly and welcoming. The management and staff went above and beyond to assist in moving mom into her new home. While the first few weeks were difficult for mom, due to she was still dealing with health issues and relocating they did everything they could to make her feel welcome PLUS they kept our family informed during the entire transition process. Mom has been there for almost a year and both she and her cat love it. My sisters and I comment regularly how Floyd Place was a God send and the perfect place for Mom. We have not seen her this happy in years!

Floyd Place Offers Excellent Care at Reasonable Rates
My mom has been a resident of Floyd Place for over a year, beginning in April of 2019. I can’t say enough good things about the facilities, staff and her care. Physical facilities are great. Staff is very friendly and professional. Food is great. On site medical support is great. Maintenance, laundry and cleaning services are excellent. Administration is competent and caring. Cost is reasonable - especially for this high level of excellent care. I highly recommend Floyd Place for anyone in the area in need of assisted living for a loved one.

Floyd Place is AWESOME!!!
Floyd Place is truly a one of a kind place! I would rank it #1 out of the 4 places my mom has lived in. The staff is wonderful...so patient, compassionate, loving, and very friendly! They were very attentive to my mother, listened to her needs, followed through with the care she needed, and treated us like family. In fact, they treat each other like family too. The facility administrator is a very honest and caring person. He stands behind what he promises and always follows through! He always tries his best to help everyone feel comfortable...and never hides in his office. The food is homemade and wonderful...the cook is awesome!!! The facility is kept very clean...including the rooms. They have a beautiful and spacious enclosed courtyard to walk pets...or just sit, chat with family, and enjoy the fresh air. They are priced very competitive and offer so many nice amenities. We were so sad when we had to move our mom when she ran out of money and had to go on Medicaid. Nothing else compares to this place...it is the next best thing to home!!!

Above and Beyond
I'm not sure what I would have done without the incredible people at Floyd Place. Last Jan. my mom, who has dementia, broke her 2nd hip. The hospital sent her to a rehab center (supposedly for a month) but upon arrival she became extremely combative, physically and verbally. They would not keep her and back to the ER we went. The doctor there asked what my plans were because she couldn't stay at the hospital for more then a night. Did I mention that it was the day after a bad blizzard, with treacherous roads and I had the flu? The next day, at my wit's end, I texted [name removed], the director. He, [name removed] the nurse and [name removed] were at the hospital in an hour. They spoke to the hospital personnel and to my mom. They had her furniture moved into a charming little apartment the next day and Mom the following day. Now almost a year later, I can confidently say there is not a better place for Mom. It is a small facility with a wonderful small town atmosphere. The building is bright and cheerful. The meals are delicious. There are daily activities to keep the residents involved. But most importantly, the staff members are kind and caring, and truly seem to enjoy their jobs. Mom was fiercely independent, a weeee bit of a complainer, and scared to death of going to an "old folks home", Now she only has glowing things to say about Floyd Place. I believe I toured all the assisted living homes in Sioux City. If you are struggling with this difficult decision, please be sure to look at Floyd Place.

Floyd Place is the Best!
Floyd Place in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, was my mother's home for the last 3 and 1/2 years of her life, and she loved every day of her time there. The staff were wonderful to her and she came to love so many "Floyd Place angels" very dearly. My family loves them, too! Thank you to [name removed]. and his fine team at Floyd Place, for all of your kindness, professional caring, and support. You will always be in our prayers. [name removed], Seattle (and brothers)

A Home Away From Home!
My mother has lived at Floyd Place for over 9 months and absolutely LOVES it, especially the STAFF, HAPPY HOUR, and the FOOD. Their cook is awesome, takes a lot of pride in what she serves, and checks with the residents regularly to make sure they enjoy what they are eating. She especially wants to please them and all family members that eat there. I love the cleanliness of the whole facility, the spacious courtyard, the spacious studio apartment and bathroom, monthly Family Night, and most of all...the caring, loving, dedicated, and very compassionate staff. [name removed], the Facility Director, is very passionate about listening to family members and making the residents feel loved and very comfortable. My mom has dementia and owns a dog, and this combination has been challenging, to say it mildly. [name removed] has been wonderful about listening and addressing her needs. [name removed], the Activities Director, is exceptionally friendly to everyone and has a loving heart. The Cook is "ONE of a KIND" and makes delicious homemade meals. Everyone seems to love their jobs and work together well as a UNITED TEAM. They are very willing to help each other take care of the residents and do whatever is required of them, no matter what the job is. Their monthly Family Night is an awesome display of this unity and how well they work together...they make it look so easy...and it's not...they are just that organized!!! They have fed over 100 people at times...in a fairly small space...and it's astonishing how well everything clicks!!! All of the staff members stay working through cleanup (giving up their personal time)...they are loving and patient... and everyone does their part without any complaining. It looks so effortless...but it is a huge undertaking!!! They have a different theme each month, serve an awesome variety of food, offer fun entertainment, and a wonderful door prize for a lucky winner. I have never seen a place where all the OFFICE STAFF helps with the residents...but they do here...the Head Nurse and the Facility Director included!!! They work together as Family...and make everyone else feel like Family!!! There are a lot of GREAT things going on at Floyd Place...come check it out!!!

Top Notch Team: Highly qualified staff with a caring attitude. You can tell they enjoy their job.
WOW, where do I begin. Staff at Floyd Place are superb. [Removed] remains informative, honest and thorough. [Removed] delights my mom with her warmth and friendliness. [Removed] stops what he is doing and assists in everything from hanging pictures to repairing leaks. [Removed] convinced Mom to participate in activities, which is not her norm. He has shown compassion and thoughtfulness. [Removed] shows caring with a mix of humor and I am told she gives excellent showers. [Removed] is detailed and accurate as well as responsive to any concerns noticed. To top it all off, this staff also assisted in moving [Removed] into the Floyd Place. I would highly recommend Floyd Place in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa to anyone looking for care for a loved one.

Floyd Place superb
Floyd Place is a wonderful place for my father. He has been here almost a year. The staff here is so friendly and professional they go above and beyond to take care of their patients. I have been so comfortable having my father here because I know I do not have to worry about him. They keep their rooms clean and do the laundry. Food is a good balance meal three times a day , snacks at night. Maintain the rooms so everything is working right. My whole family is so impressed with how well our father is taken care of. If something is wrong with my father they call me right away. My father gets along with the staff very well. Highly recommend this facility to any one.

Floyd Place is tops in this daughter's opinion.
My mother has lived at Floyd Place in Sergeant Bluff for the past three years. Although she did not want to have to leave her home, she has always told me that she is very happy and comfortable at Floyd. I live on the West Coast and am only able to visit my mom twice a year, but I consider the caring staff and other residents at Floyd to be part of my own extended family. The management is very kind and efficient, and all the staff with whom I have interacted are kind, friendly, and capable. The meals are delicious, and activities are varied and engaging. If I were unable to continue to live in my own home, I would want to be able to live at Floyd Place!

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Iowa regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Iowa regulations for Assisted Living.
