Compassionate Care in a Safe and Supportive Environment
All the staff is friendly and helpful. I can visit anytime and as much as I want. The rooms are nice. Medications are given appropriately. And meals are presented in accordance to every patients dietary needs. I also like how the residents are brought out into a community room where there is a television and they can interact. It is a locked facility for the dementia residents and there is a doctor on staff who rounds 2-3 times per week if the families choose him for their care.

Great memory care
My loved one Resides in the memory care part of this community. The staff are nice and attentive. They seem to be trained well in dealing with residents with dementia. Rooms are smaller but very well decorated and painted. [name removed] and [name removed] the directors are nice and communicative regarding any changes or updates. Overall nice place for the elderly.

Happy with my sisters care
My sister was admitted two months ago after being in rehab for 3 weeks. The transition was difficult as she was hoping to go home. The director was wonderful and patient with us throughout the process. They set her room up beautifully with along with a basket full of toiletries and goodies. Overall we are happy with the staff and amenities. Majority of the staff are super friendly and caring. The do room checks every half an hour which is nice. Food is tasty, plentyfull, and homelike, but I wouldn’t call gourmet. Activities are nice and entertainer and pastors visit frequently. Overall it’s a nice and homey place with a warm feel. For this price I think it’s your best option. Obviously for my sister, she would rather be home, but that is not an option so this is what we feel is the best option for her. Thank you to the kind Heritage Grove team!

I would definitely recommend
My reason being the majority of the staff take their duties seriously but there a couple that are definitely only on the job for a paycheck, constantly complaining and stir the pot. [name removed] has been there for a year now and I go at some point everyday. The facility is always clean and the residents are happy, the food is homemade, appetizing and appealing.

Heritage Grove is a great memory care place for mom
My mom has been at Heritage Grove since May. She is in the memory care section. The staff is wonderful and very patient. They are easy to get ahold of for any questions or concerns we have had. They take really good care of my mom.

Dated and dark
The building is very outdated, rooms are small and dark. Memory care is especially dark, they are doing them wrong by using the basement as resident rooms. They don’t have culinary team like the website says. I don’t recall them being ServSafe (I didn’t notice anything hanging there) They are want to be chefs and their food is over cooked, residents were complaining on how tough the chicken was. One guy in the kitchen was wearing headphones and talking while working other staff on their cellphones sitting and not interacting with the residents (which was unprofessional). Their rates are cheaper, you get what you pay for though. I will not be moving loved one here.

So grateful!
I can’t say enough about heritage grove at Indiana. My mother has been there for 6 months and we couldn’t be happier. The administrator and head nurse are all so caring and constantly keeping us updated on how mom’s doing. The food and activities are A+ and keep mom so active. She also made friends with some of the other residents and every time I come visit she’s always with a friend. Thank you to the staff at heritage grove for looking out for mom.

Quality Care
Although I feel she got adequate care at Heritage Grove, and she was very fond of one of the girls [name removed], who spent quality one-on-one time with her, I have to admit that the atmosphere (the dining area and the "living room" area) was less than inviting. My mom's room was small and she had no place to sit except for on her bed. The "nursing home" odor was overwhelming at times. With that being said, I feel the staff do the best they can. I truly believe they are very short-staffed. The executive director, [name removed], is very professional and has been nothing but kind and helpful. [name removed], who I believe is the nursing director, is great. It seems she wears many hats and is the primary "go to" person for staff and family members.

Staff do not communicate enough with family/POA re: changes in med orders, additional medical consults that are ordered, when a client returns from ER. Administration: Have not had enough interaction to provide an adequate review. The Administrator that assisted with my loved one admission was great (5). But she left soon after and the only interaction I have had with new Administrator: 4. My loved one complains about it most of the time. States meals are "cheap." I provide him with snacks and drinks kept in a fridge kept in their room. My loved one does not attend activities. Seems that there may not be enough encouragement for him to go?...Many activities center around Christian activities which leaves folks out who are not religious/Christian. My loved one is upstairs. I have no experience with downstairs (memory care)

Fair
Not a problem except for the meals. My husband is usually not fussy but was very upset with the dining facilities. Food was very inadequate & tasteless. Happy with room & help with getting heat & a recliner in it. Unfortunately not happy with the tv. Couldn’t really watch it as not connected properly.

Indiana Square has been a blessing
Indiana Square has been a blessing! At a time of great need and sadness they were welcoming, supportive and nurturing! They led us through the process of moving and finding a new normal with grace and positivity. They seem to thrive for inclusiveness and encourage participation. They do all of this with smiles and kindness. My mom has told me on several occasions how fortunate she feels to be in such a beautiful place with such kind and helpful people.

Cannot say enough about this place!
5 Star review for Indiana Square. My Mother moved there for independent living and then to personal care. It’s obvious that Indiana Square is aesthetically pleasing and clean. You soon learn that ALL areas of their staff are friendly, caring and professional. We had several health events with her during her 4 years stay and each time they went out of their way to ensure her safety, comfort and ability to continue to live there. Our saddest day was when her care finally required true skilled nursing and we had to place her elsewhere. My only negative is that they don’t offer certified Skilled Nursing at this site. My Mother certainly wanted to stayed there till her end. Now that we have experienced the level of care and personal concern given at one rehab and then at an excellent skilled nursing facility, it is so evident that the care of my mother at Indiana Square was the best of the best!

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Pennsylvania’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Pennsylvania’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.
