Review for Maplewood at Stony Hill

So far, our experience with Maplewood at Stony Hill has been a 5. They just love [name removed] and treat her well. The facility is always clean and welcoming. They try to include her in activities but at 99, I guess she's not terribly interested. The only problem she has, sort of, is that most of the people who live on her floor are difficult to relate to, their memory issues are much more advanced than [name removed]. But she loves most of the staff and they treat her very well. The food is very good. She eats every bit of what they serve, and they know when she wants tea or juice and have it all ready for her.

The people are friendly and helpful. The facility is immaculate, beautiful and secure for residents. It is comfortable and the staff makes it feel like home. The key people working there understand the nature and challenges of the disease.

[name removed] was very thorough, explaining all the different aspects of the tour, all the information related to pricing and admission requirements, etc I felt very comfortable about my dad possibly living at this home, that he would be safe and well taken care of. My family and I still have much to think about, before we can make a final decision.

It was a very nice.place. The staff are nice and very knowledgeable. However, we felt the place was more for Ahelzimer patients and no so much for someone with Parkinson's. We thank you for time.

I loved it from the minute I entered, there was a sign with my name on it, welcoming me, and it was just for a tour which totally made me feel so welcomed. [name removed] was terrific, answered all my questions, and it is an absolute beautiful Facility. I would have no reservations, placing my spouse in such a gorgeous facility.

What we like the most about the community is that all the employees know the names of each resident and the guests who come regularly. I always felt they cared about each resident and his/her personal needs. I never worried that [name removed] needs were not being met.

Review for Maplewood at Stony Hill

Maplewood is great, but transitioning a loved one to an in-patient setting is not easy. The staff at Maplewood have been very helpful and supportive but programs and additional funding and resources for dementia and Alzheimer's related diseases is vital and needs improvement. However, the staff at Maplewood are kind, compassionate and competent when it comes to memory care. This specialized facility is beautiful, and my mom is doing great in her new home.

Both parents at Maplewood at Stony Hill

Overall, our experience at Maplewood at Stony Hill has been good. I feel like they generally care about the people staying there. The place looks good and is well cared for and they do a nice job keeping their room clean and the linens clean which is a big deal with my mom and her incontinence. Also, my mom has expressed she is bored and they’ve been making an effort to encourage her to be a part of the activities that they offer there.

Review for Maplewood at Stony Hill

Facility- Very clean and up to date. Room my dad is in works well for him. Meals- he is very happy with the food and enjoys the routine of the meal schedule. He is kept busy with activities. Staff- staff have been good with my dad. He seems to like everyone there. We have found them to be friendly and aware of what my dad has been doing on a daily basis. When we email or text it sometimes takes a little longer than we'd want for a response but if we needed someone quickly it's easy to get someone by phone. I should mention we were under extreme pressure/time sensitive to get my dad to a facility (coming from inpatient hospital stay) and the center did a GREAT job expediting the process and in touch with hospital directly. In addition- drop off was hard for us and they did do a great job with that process.

Compassionate care, comfort and safety

The decision to place a parent in a memory care assisted living is one of the hardest decisions a family can make. Maplewood at Stony Hill not only understands this, but exceeds expectations starting with the very first contact. Maplewood’s staff has provided our mother with the comfort and safety the likes I have ever seen, compared to other facilities. The communication between the staff and our family is open and they are accessible in a timely fashion that beats all others, even beyond the medical industry. Above all, the compassion they provide, at all levels, gives us the peace of mind that we made the right decision. Maplewood at Stony Hill has achieved a state-of-the-art senior healthcare network, with unparalleled compassion, in a beautiful sensory hospitality property that we now proudly call home.

over all nice community

Overall experience - so it's been good but I'm in NY and he's in CT. Seeing the place was easy, getting him moved and his room set up before he got went smoothly. The downfall is that when he first went there [name removed]-the 'sales lady ' would call and update me at first to let me know how he was adjusting. The other staff do not. The place is pretty clean. Not really any complaints there. If there is something that needs attention you just housekeeping know, if they are there. The friendliness of the staff... that all depends. Some are super great like the nurse [name removed] on the 3rd floor. Most of the staff is pretty nice, but they don't seem to out of their way much to speak to family. Staff at the front desk are great. I can be on my way out the door and see me crying and ask if I want to take a minute and have water or something else to drink. Quality of care...no one will ever care for your loved one you do. [name removed] had a stoke last [date removed] . When I went to hospital his fingernails were long and very dirty. His stoke left his right side compromised and unable to speak so now moved to a different floor. [name removed] was very much loved before his stoke. He loved dancing on the floor and able to many things on his own. Now being in a wheel chair and at times 'sliding' out of it I do wonder where staff is to not realize his starting to sink and needs to be repositioned. I don't believe that staff is as involved with the care when their dementia gets to that point. I also have been able to get there as often as I would to to see if that is a true statement. I am not always informed when [name removed] needs more depends or something else. It's not a bad place but I do think they need more staff to be more involved. Like a bit more one on one. I personally do not like the food. [name removed] loves it and many others do. It would be nice if snacks were readily available instead of going the kitchen and asking especially for someone who is not able to talk. Someone actually has to think and ask 'hey would like a drink? Or something to eat?'. They do offer drinks at certain times like all facilities. They have 3 different floors depending on the severity of dementia. The first floor is for those who are most with it. They get lots of different activities. Painting, crafts and games. The 3rd floor where [name removed] used to had music, trivia and things like that. But never they other activities like the first floor. And I honestly don't believe anyone ever asked [name removed] if he would like to go. The 2nd floor where Jim is now the often seem to watch movies and have music. But there again I am not able to be there as often as life allows Value of cost.... that is kind of hard to judge. I don't know how other memory care facilities operate. To me for a little over [fee removed], yes [fee removed] a month! Those elderly deserve the very best and top notch care. It's very, very hard.

exceptional caregivers, particularly for memory care

They understand dementia and the memory impaired. If there are any issues, they are easy to work with and want to make any needed improvements. Everyone was very nice and helpful, bent over backwards from the start. They did whatever they could to get my Dad engaged and out of his bed, which is where he has spent the majority of the last 10 years, literally. When I visit him, he is never in his room or in his bed! They know how to deal with dementia, which my Dad had severely now, unfortunately. He is now technically in hospice care, after falling and the hospital did a CT scan and found a mass in his throat/neck area, in his lymph nodes. I was going to move him, but Maplewood assured me that they can continue to care for him, and the staff there is working well with Hospice. I am certain that I made the right decision. They communicate very well with the families. They call me whenever there is anything I should be aware of. My Dad has been in 2 other facilities prior to Maplewood, and that was not the case.

Exactly perfect care

Mom had all her children and spouses taking shifts to be with her 24/7 for a few years. Health and a fall made this impossible. Maplewood not only helped us, but she thrived. As she declines, she does it with dignity and respect. We can her children, not caregivers. Thank you!

Memory Care

I am an attorney and frequently act as the court-appointed conservator for infirm individuals, often with memory care complications. I recently visited Maplewood in this capacity and was astounded by the level of care available locally. The Bethel facility is immaculate and every element is clearly well considered to accommodate and protect its residents. The staff I encountered were warm and inviting, but also knowledgeable about life at Maplewood. The rapport I observed amongst the residents and the Maplewood team felt genuine. During my tour, I had escorted access to the surprisingly large facility and was invited to view the calendar of events and curated menu. It was immediately apparent that Maplewood has the capacity and expertise to accommodate residents with complex medical concerns, at varying stages of life. I left feeling confident that residential life at Maplewood is comfortable, safe and enjoyable.
