I toured this community and it was ok. The dining area was a good size, very spacious. The resident rooms were kind of small. What we didn't like was the restroom situation. They didn't have restrooms with each room, restrooms were shared. They had 2 or 3 common restrooms for about 16 residents. This wasn't ideal for us and our loved one's needs.

Overall good experience, but would like to see some improvement.
Overall it was a pleasant environment. The staff was extremely friendly. My loved one said the food was just okay. But she really liked the activities and how they kept the residents busy with Bingo and stuff like that. I would have liked for them to have some additional care features, like bed sensors that prompt them to check on residents when they get up in the night.

Schertz New Haven is FABULOUS!!
Our Mom has been a resident at Schertz New Haven for 1 1/2 years. She is 99 yr old and very active. Of course, she didn't want to give up her home and independence, but a fall made living at home no longer safe. New Haven staff made her feel so welcome the minute she entered the building. The chef, [name removed], make sure the meals are first class. The activity director, [name removed], keeps residence busy with tons of fun activities. We tease our Mom that we can't come see her because her dance card is so full. The residence are like one big family. Every member of the staff treats our Mom with respect. She is allowed to take care of anything she can and the staff is there to help anytime she needs assistance. I cannot put into words the peace of mind we have knowing how well our Mom is taken care of at Schertz New Haven.

Not What's It Cracked Up To Be
When calling to try to get a hold of staff it is hard to get a hold of them.
I feel the community is overpriced. In fact they are higher than others in the area. It's not worth the money. if you think the extra money is worth it, it's not there.
They had turnover in the community.
In fact, we will be moving our loved one of the community soon.

The facility takes great effort to make sure my mother is well taken care of in all areas: personal hygiene, health matters, recreation, and the outstanding food that is served. Medical and pharmaceutical treatment is taken care of in the house. They have been so careful during this pandemic and offer zoom meetings so we can stay in touch. New Haven is a wonderful facility and my mother is very happy there.

I have been working as a nurse practitioner in assisted living communities for over 3 years. New Haven has a feeling of home and "family love" displayed by staff to the residents. The residents are always groomed and appear happy. The facility is clean and works as a team with outside entities to provide exceptional care. I do visit facilities which I can't recommend to families seeking placement but New haven is a facility I do recommend.

My loved one has lived at this care center for almost two years. During that time, there have been some bumps along the way, but those have now been resolved. That being said, those previous issues happened under prior Administrative personnel. There have been no issues with the new Administration. If fact, [name removed] is making needed improvements and adjustments. [Name removed] has also been very good about keeping the residents' families informed, especially considering the recent pandemic. I have not had first hand experience with the new nurse, but I hear nothing but positive feedback from the staff. On to the rest of the staff... [Name removed] does a great job keeping the residents busy with activities , and has even made sure to keep families connected during this pandemic. The care staff @ New Haven takes very good care of my loved one, and I appreciate that more than know!! Thank you for all you do!!

I had no problems with facility. I placed my father there on [date removed] and he passed away on [date removed]. The only disappointment I had was in a policy that was not verbalized to me when I reserved the room and I was NOT told about when I signed papers. Was never given a copy of what I signed until I went back and asked for it...when I was told there would be no refund. I paid a month but he was only there for two weeks...policy said they would charge for two weeks after his passing....
I asked when I reserved room if I’d get a refund if he died before month was up....NOTHING was mentioned about the policy even though administrator said she told me...Facility is phenomenal and caregivers were awesome....

Very nice facility. Kitchen is central so aroma infiltrates the hallways and facility! Staff was very helpful and interaction with residents was pleasant. Rooms were sufficient and the facility itself is smaller (more intimate). Hallways are wide and brightly lit, had a very homey feel to it. Nice and very convenient to us living in Schertz!
