Not great for very end of life

I’ve debated for a while on whether or not I should leave a review. I decided to leave one to hopefully save someone from making the decision that I made during a very difficult time. This review is for hospice care for my mother who was given only a couple of weeks to live and due to various circumstances was released from the hospital. I was mislead on the level of care my mother would receive to manage her pain and comfort at the end of her life. When I first arrived I met a nurse, who we paid to provide pain management. As far as I can tell the nurse was never actually there until the morning my mom passed. If she was there whatever “pain management” she was doing was ineffective. I had a conversation with my Mom on a Monday. On a Tuesday she was obviously in pain was able to express this through limited speech. Wednesday and Thursday it appeared she was in incredible pain. She was constantly writhing in her bed, moaning, trying to rip off her clothes and nasal oxygen

In one day we must have toured about 8 different group homes and pretty much they all were on the same level. Doing this was a learning process what we thought we wanted which was having mom and dad share a room was explained to us that may not be such a good idea and after someone taking the time to explain the reasoning behind it we agreed. This group home was very nice clean and the staff was friendly and very professional. You could just tell by talking to them they had experience. If I can remember correctly the price was fixed a one certain rate

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Memory Care. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know California’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about California’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.
