Home Sweet Home

My sister has been here about 6 1/2 months and continues to love it there. It is a very warm, heart-warming environment, with an immediate feeling of welcome when entering. Everywhere I walk, I feel a feeling of cleanliness. There are smiles and acknowledgement every time I go to visit my sister, from staff and residents. My sister feels very well cared for. When she was sick, staff came to bring food and check in on her, for example. I continue to be happy to see family come to visit, and love sharing how happy they are to have my sister there. The administrative staff seem to be so sweet and light up the room. They sincerely seem to like their jobs. The food is excellent! My sister always raves about how good the food is. I was invited to sit in their dining room and share a meal with my sister before she moved in so we could experience the great chef's food. They were right! There are many activities planned daily. My sister is hardly ever in her room because she doesn't want to miss any activities! There is also a theater room that shows a movie nightly, with popcorn included. The staff plans family-inclusive events, too. We attended a 4th of July barbecue with live entertainment—a pianist playing retro patriotic songs with a sing-along. We also attended a luau with a roasted luau pig and Hawaiian dancers included! We always have a good time being included in these special events. We were each given leis to wear and flags to wave at the 4th of July event. My sister does crafts, plays Bingo, plays balloon volleyball, does chair yoga, and has trivia contests. Children come to entertain them with songs and dance as some of the activities my sister attends, and of course, movie night is every night with popcorn. It's a very fun environment for her. This makes us happy to see her happy! Her doctor, hairdresser, neurologist, friends, and family members have all seen an improvement in her since she's been living there. Overall, it truly feels like a home sweet home for my sister.

I would recommend our families experience

My only criticism is the food wasn't that good. My father was in memory care and for him it was hard to eat. The staff was awesome and very helpful but there were few activities so a lot of time to do nothing.

I recently toured the community, Rancho Penasquitos is a lovely bright and inviting community I toured with [Name Removed] she was delightful. She was a wealth of information and unlike other communities I did not feel like I was buying a used car. We had lunch with a wonderful group of residents that had a lot of the same interest as my mom. I am so happy. We walked out knowing we made the right choice. They also knew we were on a budget and made it a point to explain their specials for the month. Helped us with movers and made the entire experience effortless. Thank you all.

I recently toured Rancho Peñasquitos Senior Living while searching for options for a family member, and I came away with a very positive impression. The first thing I noticed was how warm and welcoming everyone was. From the moment we walked through the front door, the staff greeted us with genuine smiles and took the time to answer every question without making us feel rushed. Our tour guide was knowledgeable about the different levels of care and explained how residents can transition between Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care as their needs change. The community itself felt bright, clean, and well maintained. Rather than feeling institutional, it had a comfortable, home-like atmosphere. Residents were engaged in activities throughout the building, and it was encouraging to see staff interacting with them by name. The apartments were spacious and thoughtfully designed. The dining room was inviting, lunch was amazing.

Rancho Peñasquitos Senior Living was a good sized place to start looking. It is a medium sized facility with fewer than 100 beds. The rooms are private, a feature I liked for my fiercely independent husband. The director I worked with was very generous with her time and knowledge. I did not feel pressure, just informed. My concerns were not dealt with breakers, but I did not love that memory care residents were the only ones with access to the two outdoor areas. Additionally, though there were activities offered throughout the day they did not seem well attended. Of course I was there on a weekend.

Outstanding community

Our family cannot say enough wonderful things about Rancho Peñasquitos Senior Living. Making the decision to place a loved one in assisted living is never easy, but from the moment we walked through the doors, we felt welcomed, supported, and cared for like family. The Executive Director, [Name Removed], goes above and beyond every single day for both the residents and their families. Her compassion, professionalism, and genuine love for the seniors in her care truly set this community apart. She is always available to answer questions, provide guidance, and ensure every resident is treated with dignity, kindness, and respect. You can tell she does not just see this as a job — she truly cares. The staff are attentive, friendly, and patient, and the community itself is warm, clean, and inviting. The communication with families has been exceptional, and we always feel informed and included in our loved one’s care. It gives us tremendous peace of mind knowing our family member is safe, happy,

Poor Memory Care Experience

Upon moving a family member in here I was so excited as I thought I found the perfect place for them. Very quickly I started to realize the staff here is not equipped or trained to care for Dementia residents. Please be warmed if your loved one has any behavioral issues associated with Dementia this is definitely not the place for them. My loved one sustained injuries and bruises here that were unexplained. I was very persistent upon getting answers one evening I was told my loved one was sent to a Behavioral Unit for aaggression.i believe he was dumped their due to my questioning. I was never contacted to pick up my loved one at first signs of aggression. and only notified after the fact. I was told he coukdnt teturn. They called the police and my loved one who has Dementia and lives in their locked facility was taken away in handcuffs by police and given paperwork regarding their rights which they couldn't read or understand. This can happen to your family member if they are here

Our family's overall experiences and observations of Rancho Penasquitos Senior Living facility.

Me and my family have been sooo pleased with the whole experience we've encountered for our sister's admittance and residency at Rancho Penasquitos Senior Living!! She's been there since Feb. 21st and we continue to be impressed with her positive attitude in living there!! The staff is interactive with the residents and with their family, is very kind to everyone they are in contact with, the room size is very roomy and private and has a view, and my sister feels safe and happy there!! Housekeeping comes once a week to change her bed, wash the linens and towels/washcloths, and clean the room and bathroom! They have an awesome chef who makes all good meals for the residents, which has made my sister prefer to eat there than for us to take her out ??She has continuous activities and chair exercises and yoga and nightly movies in their theater, which she never wants to miss!! She has continued to be very happy and has immediately made friends!! Her happiness and social activities keeps us at peace, as her family!! We would give a rate of 5 out of 5!

I am so impressed

As a family member, I can honestly say that choosing Rancho Peñasquitos Senior Living for my loved one has been one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. From day one, we’ve felt an overwhelming sense of relief and gratitude knowing they are in such a caring, positive, and genuinely supportive environment. The community itself is beautiful, warm, and always welcoming—but what truly makes it special is the people. The Executive Director is absolutely incredible. Their compassion, leadership, and attention to detail shine through in everything they do. They set the tone for the entire community, and it shows in how happy and well-cared-for the residents are. It’s rare to find someone so dedicated, approachable, and truly invested in both residents and their families. The staff consistently goes above and beyond. They don’t just provide care—they build real relationships. It means so much to us to see our loved one not only safe and supported, but genuinely happy, engaged, and thriving.

Great place for my mom

Rancho Peñasquitos Senior Living truly stands out for its warm, welcoming environment and high level of care. The community is well-run, clean, and full of positive energy. Executive Director [name removed] makes a real difference—she is hands-on, compassionate, and deeply committed to both residents and staff. Her leadership shows in the engaged team and the overall quality of the community. I would highly recommend Rancho Peñasquitos to anyone looking for excellent care and a supportive, well-managed environment.

Overall would recommend

Rancho Peñasquitos Senior living was absolutely wonderful for my husband. He only spent five days there, but we did not know it would be so brief when he moved in. Everyone was absolutely wonderful very kind and caring and they looked out for his safety. I shared a meal with him the first night he moved in and it was absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend them to anyone. As you can imagine Memory care is not a pleasant place to be, but the staff made it as perfect as ever. I appreciated them very much.

A nice place

They aren't bad and they do care. My mom was just more independent than they can handle. And they check people but not as often as she needed to be checked especially during the night. Everyone was super super nice and caring. She just needed something a little different. After she fell a second time it was too much and we couldn't take her back. I so appreciated your help though finding a space for her. We thought it would be ideal and it wasn't bad and everyone was nice, but it just didn't work for her.

We were very impressed overall, with the experience we had touring and educating ourselves with the Rancho Penasquitos Senior Living facility. The sales director was very welcoming and openly friendly, and very informative. It is evident that their number one focus is always on the families and the individual resident’s comfort and well-being. They want to know as much as they can about the resident, so they can give them the best care and experience during their stay. This was proven to be true throughout the meeting, which grabbed our attention and gave us a sense of peace when considering choosing this facility for our loved one! We were given a tour of rooms available, a tour of the three floor levels, and an invitation to stay for lunch and try out their culinary food meals provided to residents at 3 meals a day. This all will help us with our decision in choosing the proper place for our loved one.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know California’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about California’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.
