I love it here. I'm meeting lots of nice people. I especially love the courtyard by the library; I usually sit out there a while after breakfast, I read a bit & watch the birds & the antics of the squirrels. There's plenty of activities available & the staff are wonderful.

Review for Park Folsom
Feedback on Park Folsom overall is positive, especially for the price point. It's an older style building and decor. Residents are generally nice and watch out for each other. Food quality seems to be a regular topic. Only one choice and mediocre to ok. They try. Dessert is usually the best part. One thing to note is the air/heat system. Apparently they make the switch from air to heat at some point in the fall/spring and can't turn it back. Was told they are on a chiller system and once the switch is made around October from air to heat there is no going back until spring. Problem is in NorCal in October we could get rain/cold followed by a dry spell and heat up to 85. This happened last month and the residents could not use their air conditioning that is supposed to be included with rent. Even with multiple fans the studio was stuffy and warm. Was told sorry, can't go back to air conditioning till next year. A heads up on that topic would have been nice. Hope this helps. Overall a positive experience , especially for someone on a tight budget.

Meal service
Two meals a day are provided with the rent. The food is ALWAYS SERVED COLD. I have complained to management more than once, and nothing ever changes. Other than the cold food, living here is great.

Great Maintenance Staff
Maintenance is exceptional. If a problem comes up (clogged toilet, moving heavy objects, heating/cooling problems, etc) the maintenance team is prompt and efficient. The building is older so that is very important. The food is so so. An attempt to furnish cultural options is addressed: Orange or lemon chicken with fried rice, enchiladas or tacos with refried beans, spaghetti or ravioli with garlic bread, meatloaf or ribs with mashed or baked potatoes. Some serving staff are exceptional and some are rather demeaning to residents. The quality of meals is varied with a definitely low protein focus. Meals always have soup or salad, entrée, and dessert. Activities are not run by staff. Games consist of bingo, Creative art is adult coloring, movies are not chosen with residents' preference. All are run by residents. Special events are provided. Holidays are celebrated with food, residents provided fireworks for the 4th of July, happy hour consists of food with no attempt at encouraging social interaction, birthdays are celebrated monthly and always consist of outside paid musicians and birthday cake. Out-of-facility activities consist of shopping at various stores: Trader Joe's, Walmart, and trips for prescription and banking necessities are on the schedule. I have not seen schedules for parades, fairs, and local celebrations. Spiritual groups consist of Bible study and Protestant/Catholic groups run by volunteers. Mental health care mostly consists of handling personal disputes. I may have judged harshly as most of my work experience consisted of being an activity director for large facilities. Maybe experience here at Park Folsom is normal for independent living facilities. The rent here is very cheap compared to newer facilities. I'm sure that is a major factor. I have observed people leaving due to dissatisfaction.

Overall my loved one is happy. But the food and maintenance are not great. But you can't beat the price, so no one complains. A few things I really like about them is the location, the community and the activities.

Highly recommend to those on a tight budget.
overall it was an excellent referral that don't cost an arm and a leg. If there are any major improvement to be done is the parking asphalt needs a new cover it can be highly accident prone if not careful and the hallway carpet should be replaced other than that [name removed] is very happy in her situation.

Feels Homey
I appreciate this location is close to many stores and services. This point was one of the top reasons I chose Park Folsom. Maintenance care is excellent and very fast acting, which is important because building is older. Meal service could be much improved. Staff is working to improve food and nutrition. Love the music room, birthday parties and happy hours!

homey atmosphere, overall pleased
It is an older facility but with a feel like home vibe to it. The staff is very available and receptive and does the best they can with limited resources. There is a good system in place which works for keeping order and a good balance . You can choose to be more involved or slip into a more private life. Everyone is respectful - for the most part.

We picked this community, because of the affordability, independence, friendliness, and activities. My loved one has benefited greatly from living there. It's a great place for people who need to live independently yet have 2 meals supplied, activities and scheduled transportation to stores and dr appts. It's amazingly affordable. They are close to the Senior Center and the library. The residents are very supportive of each other which is lovely to see. The management is involved and very friendly. I love Park Folsom and find them to be a wonderful part of our community.

I would recommend Park Folsom to others. The staff mostly are residents also. They have a good understanding that most of the people moving in are living alone for the first time. My mom cleans her own place, but the housekeepers are very nice and friendly. She knows the non resident staff by name. My mom likes a lot of the meals. Sometimes there's complaints like the chicken was dry or she didn't like the shrimp, but there's also meals that she really likes and gets excited for. The activities could be a little more lively for her, but she does enjoy them. There's not much need to communicate with us unless there's an emergency, which they take this very seriously too. If you miss a meal and don't let them know, they come check to make sure you're ok. When I toured Park Folsom, I knew it was right for my mom.

Great Place to Be
They take care of my loved one pretty good. It's Independent care They have good food and portions. They have pretty good activites. We picked this community, because of the cost, and close proximity to my home. They need to improve on daily transportation for doctors appointments, and trips to the store for the residents. Overall, I would recommed to other families.

Things are going great, my mother in law loves it and it is working out perfectly. The only problem I had and I talked to them about it. They showed me a filthy room on the tour, but I was able to see past that at the time. Other than that things have been good. She is very happy here at the moment, so we are happy. I would recommend to others looking with a few caveats. Just make sure to be up front with what you expect from them and are on the same page. They are strictly an independent living facility.

Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
