Happy at Sentinel Pointe
Staff is 5 Cleaning people 2-turnover, changing dates and average work. Food 4. Staffing is an issue in dining area but overall mom is happy with food Activities-4. Mom involved in various card groups, bingo, 2 church services and Bible Study. There aren't a lot of outside trips to choose from (at least that I'm aware of). I think last winter there was a casino trip scheduled, mom signed up and it was cancelled bc of some illness going around. That sort of thing happens but I'm not aware of them offering this again. Regardless of the individual ratings, overall, my mom is very happy there, so overall I'd say 5, but there is room for improvement in various areas and staffing is the weakness.

Happy we made the change
Administrative personnel are easy to approach by residents, family and employees. I am comfortable talking to them about any concern. [name removed], the marketing person is very pleasant and knowledgeable, a big help. Maintenance is efficient and prompt. Medical backup is easy to set up with nurses in the building.

Amazing Place for your Loved Ones Care
Sentinel Pointe has team of caring people who strive to make each day a great day for your loved ones. From management to each individual staff member they treat my in laws with kindness and respect. Every request I have ever had, has been taken care of in a timely manner and with grace and kindness. Health Care Associate is a great addition to Sentinel Pointe's care for any medical related needs. They are also a kind and caring team and we have used them multiple times throughout my in laws time there. I would whole heartedly recommend Sentinel Pointe as an outstanding option for a love one who needs a little care, but would like to independently live in a community. I have not experienced the dining, but I can give an A+ rating on all other services we have utilized. Thank you Sentinel Pointe Team for all you do!

Review for Sentinel Pointe
Housekeeping has been spotty. They often do not show up on the assigned day. When the do show up, their focus seems to be in and out as quick as they can. Very short staffed. Residents are friendly, but it sees a ling time to assimilate into the groups for those who are a quiet. Ad ministration is very involved in the day-to-day life. They are seen around the building regularly. They participate in some activities( like karaoke) and address us by our names .Food has been a non-stop problem again, the food service is often short-handed and lack training The chefs are not chefs, but line workers promoted to fill in gaps. Not knowledgeable about diets or how to prepare items on their own menus. For example a menu item rarely is served the same every day.

Response from Sentinel Pointe

Thank you for your honest feedback. We truly value input like yours, as it helps us continue to grow and improve. We understand your concerns about housekeeping and dining, and you're right—we’ve faced staffing challenges that have impacted consistency. That said, we are actively hiring and training in both departments to provide the reliable, high-quality service our residents deserve. We’ve also made changes in leadership and continue to work on strengthening our team’s skills, especially around dietary knowledge and food preparation standards. I’m glad you’ve noticed our leadership team being present and involved—that’s something we’re proud of and will continue to build on. Creating a welcoming and connected community is a priority for us, and we’re always open to suggestions for how to make it easier for new residents to feel at home. If you’re open to it, I’d love the chance to speak with you directly about your experience and what we can do better. Please feel free to stop by my office or reach out anytime. The food is the most complained about, and for what she is paying you would think she could get a warm meal and not so over cooked leather meats. I feel it's a bit overpriced for what they are truly getting. But my mother likes it there and doesn't want to move so maybe it's just me.

Great choice
The reason for 4 vs 5 is that the staffing lacks on weekends and lunch and dinner menu the same. The staff were very helpful with transitioning my mom. The facility is nice. I would recommend Sentinel Pointe.

It's a Wonderful Place
We were recently looking to move my aunt from another facility here in Grand Rapids that had cut services, and a friend recommended Sentinel Pointe. I stopped in for a visit and was immediately impressed. The building is beautiful and the amenities are very wonderful. More importantly, it was very obvious that Sentinel Pointe has a caring staff. I was given a tour by [name removed], who is the Sales Director. As we went through the building, [name removed] greeted every resident we saw by name. Also, many of the staff have worked there for quite a few years, some of them even since the building opened over 20 years ago. We brought my aunt for a tour shortly after that and she quickly agreed that this was the right move. She has now been there a week, and is loving it. The full slate of activities has made it easy for her to get involved and she has already made new friends. In what could have been a very stressful situation, Sentinel Pointe made it very easy.

Need more staff
The main reason we chose Sentinel Pointe was because the staff was extremely friendly. Although they are very friendly, they are having a difficult time finding enough staff to work in the dining room. Because of this, the wait times can be excessive. At this time, I would not recommend them to others. They seem to be getting overwhelmed.

A Quality Senior Residence with very limited negatives.
They make a point to know everyone by name, and to get to know some personal information in order to interact with them better. There are lots of ways they could improve on the food! Dad doesn't eat there at all, even though it is included in his rent. These are his issues: 1) the meal times are very short (9:00-10:45am, 12:00-1:45pm & 4:00-5:45pm), and are spaced way too close together, they need to start earlier and end later), 2) everyone comes en masse to each meal, which means there is a lot of waiting (to get in the dining hall, to get someone to take your order, to get your food); instead of assigning shift times (like [name removed] Hills does) which allows for less waiting all the way around, 3) the food is very bland, and can't be made to one's liking, 4) he prefers to eat his own food because he can get it quickly, get it served hot, and have it taste the way he expects it to taste. He says by the time he has gone through all the waiting to eat in the dining hall, and has finally eaten, within a short time later, they are ready to begin the next meal, and he says he isn't hungry yet.

Review for Sentinel Pointe
They are fantastic! The kindest staff; never tired of my constant questions in the beginning. Really good care. The food could be a step up, but there's great options every day. Very pleased. They offer three meals a day in the dining room, plus a bistro that runs from 8 to 1230 with a different selection of breakfast and lunch items every day. There is a beauty salon, and activity center, organized chair and yoga fitness classes, church services for both Catholic and non-Catholic, musical entertainment, special event parties such as holidays and birthdays, transportation to and from doctors offices, the grocery store, the bank and additional outings to specialty stores. Weekly house keeping is also included as well as assisted living available Al a cart.

I really liked Sentinel Pointe. I would have put mom here, but I felt like it was geared towards a more younger crowd, people who are more independent. I just felt mom needed more care than they were able to offer, but it was a great place. I would live here myself.

A Place for Mom has scored Sentinel Pointe 9.4 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
