First of all world class food 3 times a day. Healthy and delicious. Then there are many activities available all day, some active some just movies. There are art activities b ND learning activities. The medical care is good. Not at all actives they may not be able to enjoy the daily schedule. Other wise it is an activity and enjoyable environment for anyone. I'd give it a five.

Facility has a lot of problems starting at the top

My father had advanced PSP and Alzheimer's. His hospice nurse recommended bed rails due to fall risk. The facility refused to allow them. Shortly after, my father suffered a fall that contributed to his passing. Separately, I filed complaints with the New York State Department of Health regarding care issues. The investigation substantiated my complaint and resulted in findings related to quality of care, including issues with responsiveness, timeliness of assistance, and overall resident care. After his death, the facility pursued[Amount removed] in prorated rent for his final month. I understand the progression of my father's condition, but refusing a basic safety measure recommended by hospice, combined with state- validated care deficiencies and aggressive billing after his death, is unacceptable. Families should be aware of how situations like this are handled

A nice place

Overall a very friendly and helpful staff. As far as the food - They have many options, we signed my dad up to a few so far, he has missed them all and I haven't received a satisfactory answer for any.

This is not a place for mom

Think twice before leaving your loved one here. Once they’re in it’s extremely hard to get them out. They are heavily influenced by dollar signs with no regard of human rights. Financial gain is the only thing they truly care about. Financial gain to benefit them and my father's wife who put him in there. My father is being kept in the “memory care” side of this facility. You know, the side with the locked doors that the average person can’t see behind. The side with non-verbal, wheelchair-bound people who are unable to survive without assistance. With the exception of some memory issues, my father is in no position to be locked in an area of two rooms. I am not in denial of his condition although they’d like to make you believe you are. They actually try to spin everything to make you feel crazy. Saying things like “we see this all the time”, and “it’s a family issue”. They will diminish your rights as his own blood family. [name removed] has her own agenda. See the rest of my review on Yelp.

The Bristal is Comforting and Priceless

I'm there visiting often and engaged in my loved one's care. I can't say enough good things about them. I've been very pleased. My loved one is very happy there, and safe. The staff is very attentive. They really try to engage the memory care residents and seem to have a lot going on. I can sleep at night knowing that all is good. This type of care is expensive, but it's priceless knowing my loved one is safe and well cared for. I would definitely recommend them.

I would not recommend

We chose the Bristal at Garden City at first because it was convenient, new and modern, and clean. We thought the services would be good, but they were not so good. The room sizes were very nice. The dining services are awful here. They ran out of food a lot of times. I would not recommend this community.

The Bristal At Garden City

The community was brand new and very clean. The staff was very friendly. Because it was a new community, they were able to give a lot of undivided attention to the residents. We did think The Bristal At Garden City was a good value for the price.

Don’t Let The Pretty Grounds Fool You

Don’t let the beautiful grounds, inside decor and fancy room names fool you. It’s about the care. Night aide staff disinterested at best. Daytime staff puts on big smiles when family is around. Who knows what really happens when you are not there. Reflections area is a huge disappointment. I would NOT recommend this facility.

Thank you for your care

My husband [name removed] was at the Bristal at Garden City for the first 6 months that the facility was open. He was in the reflection unit, the care that he received was wonderful. Under the direction [name removed], the unit's staff was caring and attentive. [Name removed] is a very special person. Her staff was very kind and understanding of his condition of Parkinson's and dementia. When the time came for Hospice the care he got there was excellent. I thank you all in the reflections unit.

This place is terrific

We chose The Bristal at Garden City after visiting a few other assisted living facilities in Nassau County. My mom had stayed in the Bristal In North Woodmere for a few years and for the most part we were happy to have her there. My mother-in-law had just come out of a horrible experience at Parker rehab after breaking he shoulder in 3 places and her opposite pelvis. It took several weeks to regain some mobility and we needed a place where wheel chairs would be allowed. There we're several brand new Bristals in Nassau, and they all recommended the one in Garden City for a transition. My mother-in-law was expecting to go back to her apartment after a month, so she was willing to try it out. [Name removed] the sales person was very nice and escorted us around the entire facility as well as some of the different rooms. [Name removed], the director is absolutely terrific. Not only is she a warm and considerate person, but she has managed to assemble a staff that seems to really uphold the mantra that the customer or in this case the resident is the most important person here. Everyone from the front desk and administrative team, to the Entertainment staff, especially [name removed], to the guy and gals who maintain the facility, set up the TV's , handle the laundry, the medicine, and virtually every other need is genuinely nice. [Name removed] and her medical team are very caring and very understanding of the needs of the elderly. And to our surprise, the chef is terrific, and there has been nothing but praise about the food. We didn't expect to hear it, but my mother-in-law really likes the place and decided to make it a full time residency, and has already been there for close to 4 months now. If you are looking for a safe place that has professional staff who are considerate of your parent's needs and desires, this place has to be one of the best. [Name removed] sets the tone, and her total team follows suit.

Bristal is the best

My mom is looking better than she did 5 years ago. The staff is the best, the facility is beautiful can’t say enough good things- you do have to stay on them about cleaning her apartment but, when you do they take care of it. This is the Rolls Royce of assisted living facilities.
