Review for Wake Assisted Living Memory Care

The Wake Assisted Living Facility Director, Care Coordinator, & Med Techs are all always on top of things. They are a good team and delegate tasks the remaining staff in a productive and efficient way. (Seems so by me, a family member who visits 3-4 times a week) The remaining staff are caring, patient, relaxed (in a good way), quick to respond to needs and proactive in knowing when a resident seems out of synch. The turnover is expectantly quick with some, but the ones that can do the job the way it needs to be done, stay. They seem to have a good working relationship with each other as well. They are always welcoming to family members. The food is consistent, heathy, ample, and prepared/served with care. The cook is the same one who's been there the whole time Dad has and she knows the residents by name and knows their dietary needs. My father can be picky and he says the meals are "almost always wonderful." The activities seem to be hard to accomplish, but not because the staff doesn't try. The sing alongs and bingo are always well attended. They bring musical guests in for entertainment and the residents really like that too. They have special family gatherings for holidays ... The onsite P.T. , O.T. , speech therapy group does a wonderful job too. They are a completely separate company that has offices on site. The cleaning crew does a remarkable job. It almost always smells clean when you enter. The floors are always shiny, and the walls and woodwork are regularly getting paint touch ups. Not to be misleading--it's an older facility, not fancy at all, but it has what is needed and they do a good job of constantly working to keep things clean.

Beware - Not the Place for Mom

I would never put a loved one here again. They let my mother go unbathed they chopped my mother's hair off without asking they sent my mother to the hospital multiple times without telling me or showing me any video footage of what was going on. And when my mother was finally forced to go to rehab rehabilitation after her stay there, they threw all her stuff in garbage bags, including shampoo on top of clothes and set it by her room door. I would literally have to go there multiple times a week to give my mother a bath myself

It is very institutionalized

Nice staff. Nice business manager. Seems to be taking good care of my father. That’s all I have to say….. I am not in a place to make any further comments……………………… We appreciate all their care. I don’t like that there is not a way to pay on line. Having to write a check is very inconvenient.

The staff did its best to make us feel comfortable in leaving our mother in their care. Our mother was only in this facility for less than a month but when she was committed to a nearby hospital they stayed in touch and seemed to be concerned with her condition and did they best to get us in touch with the staff at the hospital till she passed.

Simple, clean, caring and safe

The staff all care about the residents. The director is experienced, warm and friendly to families, and has a good connection with her staff. The onsite therapy team (an independent company) works well with Wake AL staff and the residents. The residents are all memory care patients and for the most part seem relaxed and comfortable. The facility is simple but clean with regular maintenance and upkeep. The facility is safe and secure and families are welcome and encouraged to visit at anytime.

Good care, unfortunate outcome.

My dad got COVID 3 days after moving into the facility and died 3 weeks after moving in. I actually don't fault the facility at all. They were wonderful through the whole situation. This is primarily a Medicaid facility. I have to say I think if my dad had lived I think he would have received more attention there than at his previous facility which was double the cost. He was also a private pay resident. So his cost was about $[removed]per month. The Medicaid cost was about $[removed]. Wake Assisted has its place and they do the best given what they are. Older and well cared for yet well used facility. CLEAN! Staff is very attentive. Good to note They did follow COVID PRECAUTIONS.

A Great Community

All of the categories I would rate 5 stars. I have had great experiences here. Nothing is perfect, but their cheerfulness and willingness to help at every turn is just so wonderful. We would absolutely recommend Wake Assisted Living Memory Care community to other families looking for a community for their loved ones. It is a basic facility, but they do seem to try hard there and I adore the staff.

They can improve on, communication with family to include returning calls in a timely manner. Although the communication between staff and family was not the best, I believe those who worked directly with mother were gentle and caring. Whether or not I would recommend them would depend upon the circumstances of patient and family.

Our loved one is very happy here

The staff is extremely caring and friendly (nurses, aides, maintenance staff). Since the facility is fairly small, they know everyone by name. Our loved one is very happy here and has made friends easily. The Activities Director is very cheerful and motivated and keeps folks active even with limited resources. There has been turnover with the administrative staff, so things seem less organized in terms of paperwork. But they make an effort to be helpful. The rooms and common areas always seem clean. The furniture is quite old and the facility is not impressive in terms of aesthetics, but is laid out well and is easy to navigate for people with memory issues. A big plus for some is that they do accept Special Assistance/Medicaid if the resident can qualify. Also, their overall monthly fee is a bit less than many other places in Raleigh if paying out of pocket.

Can't Recommend Them Enough

I have told some people already that I think they are outstanding. My experience there was great. They were very protective of the people living there pre pandemic. They were qualified and did a great job. The thing that impressed me most was the front line staff. The nurses and aides were as friendly as could be. I got the impression that the people actually cared. Some people do it as a job. This was a calling. They were wonderful. My loved one was always smiling and happy to them because they made her feel happy. When she was moved and in pain, they would sit there and walk her through what they needed to do for the well being of my wife. It's an older facility but the cleanliness and quality of care was excellent. That is why I picked it. They have a nurse on duty 24-7. They were gracious and informative. They worked extremely well with hospice. I can't recommend them enough.

Our family had an in person tour experience and at the time I was not her guardian so it was all about what she wanted, and she is still in denial about having early onset dementia. However it was to no fault of the community, she did not think she would have anything in common with the memory care residents, so we ended up moving her into an independent community because she just wasn't quite ready for memory care.

Beware. There is not enough staff and people here who need looking after are not being taken care of. There is a large turnover in residence because of "accidents." The staff is nice when you speak to them but if you stop and look you will see things that will make you nervous. Due to the issues with the patients at this facility they cannot speak for themselves when something happens. But you need to ask them the average the turnover rate of staff and patients.

good overall

So far things have gone good with Wake Assisted Care. This is the first place we got my sister in where she accepted it and seems to be doing well. My main critique is that they do not seem to have enough staff. I have noticed that to be an issue at several of these places. Other than that for the most part things have been good overall. My sister has adjusted to it.

This was rather large and it was a very clean place, it was spectacularly clean, when you walked in there there were no odors, it was very clean. The administration was exceptionally nice and the staff there seemed very good but the dementia level there seemed liked they were all very advanced and it was very depressing to us, especially one of my sisters.
