My aunt lives at The Courtyards in Knoxville. Every time I call and talk with her. She goes on about how amazing the food tastes. She says it's homecooked, always fresh and hot, and how amazing the staff is.

My loved one was previously a resident at The Courtyards at Johnson City- The Gardens for a brief time and overall the experience was okay. I'm sure it's a pretty good place, but I guess I expected them to be able to handle his behaviors since they accepted him. The last day he was there he had a procedure and anesthesia that day and that night was more confused and combative and struck one of the workers. They sent him out and would not take him back. They didn't really seem trained to deal with his behaviors when he shutdown. Also, I noticed some staff baby talking some of the clients. I know cognitively they're impaired, but they're not babies.

Focus on how many staff they have. Should have enough to keep focus on residents. I do not recommend them, Issues with staffing and supervision will cause me to look elsewhere.

I would have ranked The Courtyards at Knoxville with all 4's and 5 stars if it were not for a couple of caregivers that have the wrong attitude. Also, I believe there is a lack of training with the staff that results in the mishandling of dementia and Alzheimer's residents.

The longer my mother was there, we realized, that the nursing staff was not sufficient for her needs. Often times there would be no nurse available, or we would not get a return phone call and answer to our questions. They tried to bill us for Nursing care that she did not receive. And they could not produce any documentation for it. There was also three different instances where items were stolen from my mother‘s room. It included and not only cash, but also gift cards that we had purchased for her to give out to the staff. My mom had friends there, and it was hard for her to leave. But ultimately, I believe we made the right decision and she does too.

Not very good management - they have lied to me and are unresponsive to concerns. If they worked for me, I would fire them. One worker on the night shift is very hateful with the patients. Workers are not trained well enough to assess a patient in case of medical problems. Even for minor incidents, they just call am ambulance and send patients to the hospital.

Our family had an in person tour with The Courtyards at Johnson City and it seemed spread out and dark. The rooms seemed too much like a hospital setting. However the activity director seemed great.
My husband was there a day and half and pulled out his catheter and they would not allow him to come back. They said they were unable to care for him. Got him a special bed that goes up and down, had paid for the full month and they wouldn't provide any form of refund at all.
There is poor access for deaf individuals as well as communication. With management changing there are no updated for us and we are never really informed so that is something they can really improve on.

Please take my advice and do not place your precious loved ones at this facility. Both of my parents fell ill at the same time.Being an only child with a small child of my own and a full time job, I was forced to place them at this facility because it was the most affordable. I now understand why all of the other assisted living facilities are twice the price of this dump. Their staffing is minimal and includes LPNs that have to be shared between the "houses" at night, so there is no licensed nurse on premises at times. The assistant staff is what you would expect, I suppose, (neck tattoos, bad teeth, etc.)in this neighborhood and for the low wages offered. They are pleasant enough, though. My main issue is that when my mother passed away, I was sent a pro-rated bill that included the interim 3 days between her death and when I came to collect her belongings. No one informed me that I would be charged rent during this time and I do not think it is fair to expect someone to come clean out their deceased family member's belongings immediately or be charged $92 per day. The hospital bed was a rental and had already been picked up. All that remained was clothing in the closet which could have easily been boxed up in the event they had someone beating the door down to rent the room, which I'm sure they did not. I asked for proof that they had turned away residents because the room was not completely empty and was refused, presumably because it does not exist. They are just trying to grab the last little bit of money they can because that's what they are about--money not caring for your loved ones.

The courtyard for assisting living on Inskip road is absolutely awful. They hire people who don't care for one and who just wants to stay on there phone. They have had to fire the last manager due to lack of care and the nurse that hands out the meds wAs fired from a previous place cause of mishandling the meds. My grandmother was put here by my grandfather who was stupid to believe this sick place, they lie to u and manipulate you into thinking they are taking care of the patients. They don't watch them, when the people come during the day to see their loved ones they put on a front like they care but once u leave or your not on there ass yourself, they will stay on their phones the whole time or go outside for a smoke break. I came in one night to see my grandmother and she was locked in a closet on the floor crying, I asked the women where she was and she said in her bed, I had to look for my grandmother is several rooms before I heard a loud cry from a closet, just horrible and horrific. Your just asking for them to slowly kill your loved ones if you place them there, but hey some families want that, most people wouldn't even come see there loved ones and just leave them there to die. Each person living there would even cuss at the workers cause of how violent they would be to them. I've reported this place numerous times. They also try to keep people there who have severe Alzheimer's that don't need to be there at all just so they can have more money in their pocket. Moral of story don't put your loved ones here at all.
