Lovely facility, friendly staff

This facility makes every effort to accommodate the residents. The staff is friendly and helpful. There are exceptions to this, sometimes when you use your call button no one answers and the residents are not usually advised as to some protocols (covid lockdowns, staff doctor visits). After initial move-in confusion my mother has settled into a routine and made some friends.

Patience is a Virtue

My Mom entered into the skilled nursing part of the facility after a fall. She then was moved to Memory Care after a month's time and has been residing there for over a year and a half. At first she had a difficult time adjusting to her new life, wanting to go home and was often agitated. It was during this time that the caring team exhibited a great deal of patience and respect, comforting my Mom during these difficult episodes. My Dad and I found that the staff were always willing to answer questions and address our concerns regarding my Mom. It was after a year's time that my Mom's appetite began to wane and she began losing weight. One of the nurses suggested that Hospice Care might be a good option in that she would receive additional support. This advice has been a godsend in that Mom has been eating all of her meals with the encouragement of the extra help. The activities coordinator and the new director of Memory Care have been wonderful in keeping us updated at all times.

Review for Sunrise of Edison

I've been a resident here in Edison Sunrise for almost 3 years come[Date Remoed]. It is my only home and they have taken care of me very well. From the staff of supervisors, managers, med techs, care managers, restaurant personnel, chefs and servers and additional staff members when needed. I've enjoyed the surroundings and all the activities provided for us if one wants it. There is always someone to speak to if a situation should arrive to help with making a change or improvement. Dining chef tries very hard to accommodate the wishes of us and listens to our requests with a smile. The activity staff is always very active to provide us with new ways to interest us and bring pleasure and fun.

I removed my husband from Brighton Gardens after 6 days because he wasn't safe there. None of the promises that were made to us were kept. It took forever for anyone to answer the call bell and my husband fell and broke a rib. I have the utmost respect for people in health care because I know what a difficult field this is to work in. I took care of my wonderful husband for 13 years with Parkinson's. My husband and I made the difficult decision to place him in an assisted living facility so he would have better care because, as a caregiver, I needed to take good care of myself. I went every day and I could see he wasn't getting the proper care. Some of the aides were nice but my husband said some of them were very rough with him. He is such a nice man and not the type to give anyone a hard time. I think the staff needs to take a good hard look at themselves when they are promising things that were never delivered.

It’s obvious Brighton Gardens strives to make residents feel “at home”. Every amenity has been thought of, from a varied food menu to providing stamps and a mailbox on the premises. I like the fact that there are doctors of many specialties that make “house calls”, besides the health aids that are always available. I took a tour with, and for, my mother and one of her concerns are social functions. Some social events are thoughtful and fun and some did not appeal to her, but there is an event to participate in everyday. The inside atmosphere is comfortable and the outside walking path is beautifully landscaped for the season.

Staff is great in keeping residents engaged, helping them and keeping primary contacts informed. Just need a better system for keeping residents engaged with distant family members that cannot visit. We do appreciate what they do.

Communication can be lacking with the nursing staff. They need more variety on the food menu. They also need more interactive activities.

Food

I’ve lived here for about 8 years. You can’t expect to have any place make food like mom made it, but here, what they give you is very worthwhile. First time in my life I am eating good healthy food. When we have our resident council meetings, they do the very best they can to accommodate us and our suggestions and concerns.

Not living alone anymore and secure

Mom seems to like it and seems to be thriving there. I think all health care is too expensive especially for the elderly. My mom doesn't generally participate in activities. Mom seems to enjoy it, she has gained weight. Those that I have met and spoke to are very helpful. Mom is not complaining, which she would if there was a problem. Everyone, the few times I have been there, has always been very friendly. The facility is very clean. I am very happy. I feel secure that mom is safe. I wish I could visit but I live out of state.

Medical very good aids not customer oriented

Medical care is excellent medication management almost excellent. AIDS very helpful with people that require considerable care. Cannot complain about people that will clean you if you poop yourself and you have physical problems even if you do not. However in some places if you are wheelchair bound they will roll you down to meals and back to your room. They do some but a lot people do them selves. Some people they really need it they do. The executive is excellent and care manager is hot. However place gets a four because the attitude of some aids are is not customer oriented. It might because they are overworked but you would think they want to make the customer feel welcome. They would make the you think they want you to stay not make you feel maybe like you should go to a different company. Its a business you want to make you happy not miserable. You think the aids would help each other out it’s not my job it’s hers even if you’re talking on the phone for half an hour.

A breath of relief

Sunrise of Edison sincerely cared about the services I seeked for my love one. I visited other facilities and spoke verbally to so many I've lost count. Sunrise of Edison spoke the language of care they could provide for my mother and followed up with me as well. My mother needed more help than I could provide, mentally and medically. Letting go for the betterment of my mother to become a resident of the community was the answer to my prayers. She gets to interact with people in the community and is doing very well. The facility is clean, safe and treats my mother with dignity and respect. Now when my mom looks up to me with those eyes that melt your soul, my heart is comforted knowing she's in good hands. Thank you for your service and caring professionals at Sunrise of Edison for providing the exceptional care.

I'd say everything was pretty much a "4", but they are definitely understaffed. I think that's a widespread problem in assisted living facilities though. Other families should know there are a few different levels of care available at different fees.

All Around Terrible Place

This company does not care about the residents or their workers. People have worked their for years and they do not listen to their complaints of being overworked due to shortages especially in the healthcare department. Due to being over worked makes the care bad because we are so tired and angry all the time. Many of us are not happy working there and how the residents are second class citizens at the community. Resident complaints are always kept under the rug and those that can't defend themselves are shushed away.
