The only negative is that the hallways tend to be dirty at times. There will be black spots and dust. I realize those may be hard to maintain. Staff is fantastic and always helpful. The food is really good

Had an informative tour of this beautiful facility. People looked happy and engaged in all areas. Apts are great, all types of accommodations, many in courtyard areas. Many activities are available. Food was delicious, dining room attractive and menu varied and flexible. Staff seemed pleasant enough and engaged with residents. Many programs are available. Am impressed with this facility and look forward to being part of it.

I have been a resident for over. Moved here from my home of many years. I was pleased to know that a long time friend/family and have been super excited. Housekeeping has been acceptable. I do wish that the housekeepers had their own washer and dryer. Maintenance has also been acceptable.

I’ve recently moved into Brookdale West University. I’m still in the process of going between my home near by. I have really enjoyed the dining services. The food is really good especially the breakfast. Maintenance has been quick to assist me with all my requests. I would recommend Brookdale to others.

First, [removed name] is wonderful, she tried so hard to make a move there and subsequent rent affordable. 1. I became disabled at 47 years old, thought I had 20+ years to save and add to my 401k. But I didn't, znd that money was spent waiting on social security approval. After 2 denials, I hired lawyers and was approved in about 4 months. Then spent more money on medical bills for 2 years (the wait for medicare). My point, I don't have funds for a community fee. They offered to split it into 2 payments 2 weeks apart, offered to reduce the rent a little. Wells Fargo would have loaned me the community fee, but loans have to be repaid. 2. I asked about yearly rent increases. 7 to 10%%%? So basically, you have to be well off financially to live in z senior living facility. While my social security check is fairly high, it is not enough. The community is beautiful, well tended, the residents appear to be very happy. So I wish I could have been a resident. Just didn't work out.

A great family partner

The staff are attentive and responsive. The dining room is very well run. The activities are well planned. The only suggestion I will offer is to write the date on food containers to assist with food safety. The apartment is the perfect size.

New Resident

The very friendly staff impressed me on my first visit and they have maintained that attitude throughout my move-in. They quickly provide help and make suggestions. They have made the move much easier. The residents are friendly and eager to acquaint new residents with all services and show us the places we need to know. They have welcomed us with open arms. It’s easy to make friends. The maintenance staff is quick to help when I need it too. They are very talented and experienced. We also have good transportation to doctors, shopping, banks and the all major museums, sights or places of interest in our area. I like the 2 good libraries. Some people love the sewing club, book club or writing club. The lively activity room or the card and game rooms are always full. There’s certainly enough going on to please everyone. Overall, I think Brookdale West University is very well-run which makes a calm and happy place to live. I’m glad I chose to live here!

Great place to live

The staff here is very professional, kind, caring, friendly and helpful. The day I came over to tour the facility three of the staff were waiting to greet me. They made me feel like part of the Brookdale family from the very beginning. The residents have also been very friendly, warm and welcoming also.

New Resident

From the moment I stepped off the Brookdale bus, I was greeted by the entire Brookdale administrative staff. They were welcoming and inviting as they greeted me to my new home. Of course at that moment, I don’t know that it was my new home. Shortly thereafter I signed my rental agreement after choosing my wonderful apartment, by the koi pond . I have been here 1 month. In the short time I have new friends and a lovely place to live.

Disappointed Disabled Veteran

I wouldn't recommend the Brookdale Retirement Community. I would strongly recommend to tour other retirement communities before they decide to choose and to read other people's ratings and comments. After I moved to Brookdale, one of my family members read that a few years ago a female resident was s. violated in the West University Brookdale. Most of the office staff was very rude and disrespectful to me during my time living there. I had the worst experience in W. U. Brookdale. I will definitely not recommend Brookdale to my military veteran friends and military groups.

Looking for another location for my loved one

The rent fee changes regularly. 2 months in, Brookdale increased my loved ones rent to over [amount removed]. I would not recommend it to others unless their loved one has an unlimited source of income.

Review for Brookdale West University

Food was weak. Managers could not run a popcorn stand. Outside of building needs pressure sprayed and painted. I stayed a year but no complaints were ever addressed. Again, management was pathetic. Most people there dislike the food and the place does a rent increase at the end of the year. Shop around. Brookdale is way too high. I prefer a senior apt with no cafeteria. I'll prepare my own food!

Good place to live.

The staff (admin, activities, maintenance, etc.) is responsive. E.g., after an unfortunate flood (caused by negligent contractors) in my assigned apartment on move-in day staff acted quickly with an all-hands-on-deck response to identify and move me to another apartment. The resident ambassador system actually works: I was contacted a few days after move in by another resident who provided useful info about life in the community. And text alerts from admin keep residents informed of things like city water outages, etc. Though the buildings are aging, they are maintained and apartments are upgraded. The Brookdale at Home unit provides (at additional cost) a variety of services like shopping, dog walking and some personal services. While the dining room servers are cordial and efficient and the breakfast and lunch hours are generous, the food leaves much to be desired. Not prepared well, not presented well, very limited choice. The location is notable: 3 miles to the Texas Medical Center, easy access to shopping and restaurants (Rice Village, Highland Village, Galleria area), 2 major grocery stores within feet of the community. Good public transit options (I'm probably one of the few [only?] residents using Houston Metro).

As a whole the facility/staff has been very kind to me. When I moved became a resident [date removed], I could walk. Had surgery on my foot in [date removed]. Staff was able to assist me with my Laundry. Deliver meals to me as I requested to my apartment. Special request through their facilities work-order is generally handled in a timely manner. I recommend Brookdale.
