Very comfortable experience all around

Overall been great. All the setup was east and smooth. Activities are really good, kept busy from 8to 5 occasional outings. We are kept well informed. Don't know about the food. Pretty clean or as good as it can be. Room is a good size for mom. Double bed, dresser, two big chairs, end table and tv stand. Could add others. Lighting is great and bathroom is huge and nice large closet.

our families experience has room for improvement

Seemed reasonable for his needs until he had to be hospitalized and my sister had to pay the same level of care for the entire time he was hospitalized for 3 weeks and another in a nursing home for a week before he died. We were led to believe he would be able to return from his hospitalization. We understood why he couldn't in the end but because we could not give 30 days notice, she still had to pay the full price at top rate for time he was not there. She also received a bill for[Amount Removed] to paint his room four months after he died! Don't know how to assign a number to this question. My sister signed a contract that was several pages long when she was at her most vulnerable. The nursing home refunded her money very soon after my Bro in law passed but Creve Couer just got a lot of money for doing nothing. I understand they had to hold his room open and should get $ for that but to have to pay for a level of care he did not receive because he was in a hospital and a nursing home seems wrong.

First how bright and clean the place was. Many sitting areas for residents to read, visit with family. We toured the memory unit. We love the studio apartments. It is much different than other places we seen. Like the activities. Price as much we were paying in a place that was double room with little activities. Hoping to move in soon.

Our experience

Positive is the administrative staff want to make things right when there is a problem. The negative was the attitude of the RA's and med techs and the weekend help is not always agreeable to what they are responsible for. The administration is working to improve staff response times and attitudes.

Terrible place

I took care of a client here with my homecare agency. The staff mistreated her so badly, the administration did nothing about it. She would sit on the bedside commode for 2-3 hours, she could not wipe herself, the staff would yell at her and tell her to do it herself.. She is 95, she did not require much assistance, minimal. They did not give her baths, we had to. There is so much more that I can say, I am happy her son moved her from here, this place is very terrifying and terrible, no one should be treated that way.

I have enjoyed the Family Nights with the residents here at this community. I'm extremely impressed by the engagement and happiness of the people that live here. I come specifically for this gathering centered around the residents because it brings me joy to see these residents enjoying life. This place is filled with stories and love that bring it all together.

Creve Coeur Assisted Living

My father was a resident at Creve Coeur for only ten days. Our original plan had been for him to return there after a three-week hospital stay. We had been led to believe that the facility could manage residents receiving hospice care. However, about two weeks before his passing, a nurse from [name removed] evaluated him at the hospital and determined they could not readmit him due to his inability to feed himself and concerns about aspiration. We understood the liability concerns surrounding aspiration. What surprised us was being told that even if aspiration had not been an issue, he would not have been allowed to return simply because he could no longer feed himself. In hindsight, perhaps we did not ask enough detailed questions up front. We know that many individuals with late-stage dementia lose the ability to feed themselves, and we assumed this level of care would be provided in a memory care setting. Unfortunately, because of the facility's 30-day notice requirement, my sister was responsible for paying nearly two months of fees even though he had only been there for ten days. Perhaps this is standard practice among memory care facilities, but it felt unfair given that his inability to return was not within our control. While we understand paying for the room until his belongings were removed, paying approximately $[removed] for services he did not receive felt deeply troubling. That said, we were very pleased with much of the staff. On his first day, they were able to get him to eat foods he had refused at home and even participate in activities, which was encouraging. My sister and nephew, who had been his primary caregivers, intentionally stayed away during the first week to allow him to adjust. When they visited, they were surprised to find him in pajamas and using a wheelchair in the dining room, as he had been fully dressed and using a walker when he moved in. Staff members were unable to explain the change, which was concerning. However, two days later he was dressed and resting in his recliner, which reassured them somewhat. The facility itself is beautiful, and many staff members were kind and compassionate. When we cleared out his room, several employees stopped by to offer condolences and hugs, which we truly appreciated. The Executive Director shared that she had advocated for his return but was overruled by corporate leadership. She mentioned that they do not have CNAs to provide the level of assistance he required. We were told the facility offers five levels of care. It is difficult for us to understand what the highest level includes if it does not cover feeding assistance for residents with advanced dementia. While we are grateful for the kindness shown by many staff members, we wish we had clearer information from the beginning about the limits of care and the financial policies, as this experience added significant stress during an already painful time.

Overall would recommend

The facility has been going through some management changes. The new director seems to be responsive and communicative. The nursing supervisor has also been replaced and I do not have an honest opinion of her yet. The activities director in memory care really tries to engage the residents and keep them busy. There is a decent menu of food options as well as daily specials. The facility seems clean, however you can smell urine on the memory care unit. I did not notice this when my mother-in-law was in assisted living which was only for about 2 months. The residents on memory care have the option for staff to do their laundry and clean their room. The nurse practitioner who covers the facility is very responsive and knowledgeable.

Our tour was thorough, welcoming and compassionate. It was not rushed. It included time for us to process our thoughts. Lunch was provided. Our conversations were private. They were ready for us and understood we were anxious to find a place but did not push us. The facility is beautiful, bright and clean. Bonus points for doing a tour on Saturday as I live out of town and was able to take3 facility tours in two days. Creve Couer assisted living and memory care is our choice for my brother in law.

AWFUL - DO NOT SEND ANYONE HERE

Director of Nursing is rude and doesn’t care about the patients. Made up a diagnosis of dementia 2 months into my mom living here. He did so in order to say I wasn’t allowed in her room. I did not know this and they called the cops on me when I came to visit and had done nothing wrong. Resident rooms REAK of urine and they do not clean the rooms. My mom’s room was disgusting with flies bc housekeeping wasn’t cleaning. It took me asking 6 times and it wasn’t for 8 weeks that they finally did her laundry. Front office staff are horrible and front desk lady during the week is cold and rude.

Not a drop and forget facility, needs monitoring

The staff can be hit or miss depending on shift. There are some staff that have the heart to deal with with dementia patients and know how to talk to patients and get results, others who don't seem to care. I think management tries to train them.

Our families experience. Would not recommend

The things they could improve on: When resident pushes their button for assistance, they could at least get there in a timely manner. Several occasions when my dad would wait for an hour before someone would check on him. They also have extra charges if they have to do extra laundry, trash or cleaning anything that is not on the specific day. They were not up front about these charges.

Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Missouri’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.
