It is a beautiful facility but that is about it
Deer Park was lovely. However the executive director at the time was inept. My mother left after living there 4 weeks. It was not a good experience for her. It's a beautiful facility. The food is OK. The apartments are gorgeous and that's about all I have to say.

A wonderful place for a loved one!!
From the initial phone call when we reached out to you to when [name removed] moved in was so quick and easy for all of us that we didn't have time to even stress out!! You all took the stress out of transitioning aunt [name removed] to her new home! We feel comfortable that she is taken care of!

Lack of care and supervision
She kept walking without her walker. They knew she was a fall risk and she fell on the dining room floor on a hard surface and broke the head of her femur and died eight days later on her death certificate it says accident from the fall. I don't think they keep a good enough eye on people that are a follower Risk so I can't really recommend.

Response from Deer Park Village
June 6, 2025
We are so sorry for the loss of your loved one. I would highly encourage you to reach out to the on-site Executive Director, Pamela Wyatt, in order to discuss your concerns in more detail. The front desk can help get you in contact with her for a meeting, either at the main telephone number or in person. Our deepest condolences, again, for your loss.

Overall Deer Park Village has been great. It's very clean, the staff and nurses are very friendly and take great care of my grandma. She really likes the food! We've had really great experiences with [name removed], the nursing director, in getting my grandma the right care she needs.

Deer Park Village
Had a wonderful experience while exploring Deer Park Senior Living. [name removed] (sales) was genuine, not pushy and very patient with our questions about the Assisted Living community. He even organized for my MIL to have lunch with a resident there so she could get a better sense of the community and activities. Plans unfortunately changed when the assessment came back recommending Memory Care. We then had a harder time getting a sense of the Memory Care community, capabilities and lifestyle, mainly due to time pressure on our part and not knowing what questions to ask. The Lifestyle directors made themselves available for questions. Move-in was more difficult as information was provided piecemeal with some last minute surprises (e.g. no phones allowed in Memory Care). Deer Park is a very clean and newer facility. Even when faced with the expected accident, they work hard to address in a timely fashion. Awesome staff all around, very friendly. Patient with questions. Deer Park Memory Care is a small community of about 30 residents. As of Jan 2025, Deer Park Memory Care was short on staffing and caretakers but actively recruiting. Leads to longer wait times for the residents around meals and overall support. But care provided is good, staff is kind to the residents. My MIL is higher functioning, and it's lovely to see the engagement between the staff and my MIL, including some joking banter back and forth. They have lifestyle-focused staff who lead activities and exercises with the residents, separate from the nursing and care staff. Good food overall, with reduced options in Memory Care. There seem to be many activities offered during the week, with reduced options on the Weekend. My MIL has given some feedback that some of the activities or movies offered in Memory Care seem repetitive, and has asked for more access to other activities offered to the Assisted Living / Independent Living residents. Based on capabilities, some Memory Care residents have been invited to join the larger community for specific activities. Memory Care is expensive in general, but we appreciate the smaller community feel for my MIL as she is easily overwhelmed in larger settings.

Great staff in the front line. Be very careful of leadership
Hi. My mom was a resident of deer park village from June through November. This review reflects more on the executive leadership and a warning to know what an ombudsman is and their job. Bottom line is that DPV misread the law which led to over [fee removed] an out of pocket expense for alternate housing. DPV basically said my mom can’t return due to a specific issue they couldn’t handle. They also denied allowing outside care come in saying that was also against the law. This is where the ombudsman could help. She was able to interpret the law correctly which after an internal check with DPVS legal team they suddenly had a diagnosis they could accept (with outside care involved) The staff on the ground was great, but don’t trust the leadership and have the Ombudsman number on speed dial the moment leadership tries to read a law to you. My mom wouldn’t be out [fee removed](on top of DPVs rent ) had they read the law correctly.

Review for Deer Park Village
They were hard to contact. They said they would leave my sister or I voicemails and we never received them. Felt that we weren't respected mostly because of our ages. The move out process was stressful and they were incredibly unhelpful and put up barriers for us that weren't needed. Neither me or my sister live in Illinois and we were either not taken seriously or given honest information. Not sure if they just had no history with dealing with next of kin out of state or if they were just bad at it.

Beautiful residence with great care and service
Our overall experience has been positive. DPV is very clean and always has a pleasant scent. They could freshen up some of the walls with paint. There are never things out of place and they keep up with decorations for holidays making it enjoyable for everyone. Recently they've done a better job with keeping my family member's apartment clean. The staff are friendly overall. The quality of care is good. The care team remembers my family member by first name and knows the schedule they typically keep as well as residents they regularly speak with and get together with. Medications are on time. I know the most important needs are being met. My family member likes the options of meals and the two dining options are nice. The food is good. There are an abundance of activities. Due to the large number of residents, there are always people to converse with.Only in comparing with other residences we saw, DPV gives great care and service for the months rent/add-on care. My review is strictly based on assisted living.

Exceptional Place
Deer Park Village is really beautiful. Everyone is so kind; residents and staff alike. The reason for 4 stars is one set of elevators was out for too long, they can be short staffed, and I would like more communication from the back office re billing. Easy resolutions for each of those and it is not constant. Overall, it has been quite an adjustment to downsize, but the cleanliness and amenities are amazing. I don’t think there is a better or nicer place in the area. It is great!

Outstanding Staff
Very happy with Deer Park Village. Food is really good. Nursing staff is outstanding. I am never worried about placing [name removed] here. He is in very good care. His room is a very good size. We didn't have much furniture. Full size hospital bed, lazy boy and tv and TV stand. They offer activities but [name removed] chooses not to participate. But I think the events sound wonderful.

They are awesome! Great value, lots of activities, good food. Their entertainment space at the facility is so nice. They have a roof top deck with a putting green and fire pit area and even a dog run for visiting pets that's so nice for residents and guests! The nursing staff is out of this world too!

Excellent living facility for seniors
[name removed] spent two hours touring with me my first visit there convinced me I found the right place. He and [name removed] executive director, extremely friendly and helpful moving in nursing staff is very good. Only negative I see and hear may be short handed a bit with caregivers in assisted living or my mother is more impatient than she should be.

There has been a management change since she moved in. I think they need more care personnel in assisted living and in the dining room. There are lots of opportunities for things to do if you take the initiative to seek them out.

Go somewhere else
My Mom was at Solano/Deer Park Village for 8 years. Mom was in independent, assisted, then memory care. Everything was great until memory care. I had a camera on my Mom and I saw everything. I was appalled by the treatment. There are of course exceptions to the rule but we left. We were told Mom would we checked even 2 hours at night This never happened in 2 months. Mom feet are alway cold and they couldn't even keep socks on my Mom's feet! The care program is get everybody up early. Sit them in front of the tv until after dinner and then put them to bed. My Mom was not incontinent but need help getting up they never used a saftey belt they use her pants.Employees would tell me in confidence that they were leaving. Its a revolving door. The head nurse would walk past us like we were stangers and we had been there over 8 years. When we left nobody asked us why! I urge the upper management to get involved for the current residents. We were lucky to find a place with absolute angels

Generally good, the staffing issues are concerning, but I think that across the board staffing is an issue with all sectors. The property and amenities are really great, especially for a person who is willing to use them. The dining was much better when my loved one first moved in, but it's been about a month+ of not great in that part of the community.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Illinois’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Illinois’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

A Place for Mom has scored Deer Park Village 8.8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
