However, we found out that even at the highest level of care, no staff would help with the increasingly high level of care that was needed. Mom ended going on hospice, and she needed someone to help her eat and almost 24/7 care so that she wouldn't try to get up by herself (there were several falls). We finally had to hire other caregivers to come in to help her for those additional issues. Also, it was hard to get her enough pain meds, even with hospice, because she needed such close monitoring to find the delicate balance of proper pain management. It's priced very reasonably, and they don't raise the price. In other words, if you are in assisted-living, and then you graduate to memory care, it doesn't cost more for the extra care. A nice thing they have is a great room downstairs where meals are served and it's beautiful environment with a walkout area when the weather is nice where they can sit outside and enjoy the sunshine, etc. In this great room, they like to encourage people in memory care to stay in that room where they can have an eye on them, plus there's a TV and they play old music and old songs. They have good crafts going on for those they can participate. It's good for them to have social interaction and conversation with others, so I think it's really nice that they encourage that. From what I've seen in assisted-living, they have beautiful activities and people coming in all the time for entertainment. They are a bit short staffed on Saturdays and Sundays, so I make sure I visit him on both of those days. The price is excellent and I don't think it can be beat. Overall, we're extremely happy there. They also let him have his cat. They will not do anything to care for her and my brother was able to for a while, but not now, so I have to care for the cat in order for him to keep her. But that was a deal breaker for us.
