I think it was a nice facility. I enjoyed meeting some of the residents and staff members. Common areas like the dining room were inviting. I liked the fact that was reserved covered parking available. The unit I looked at was small but okay. The kitchen had very limited counter space and it did not have a microwave. The bathroom had very limited counter space around the bathroom sink.

This is a well-run and nice facility. It has all of the facilities needed in a facility of this type. It's value for cost is very good. I am not considering it presently as it is not that much better than the facility I am currently living in.

A good place to live

We’ve lived in Highland Estates for almost a year now and plan to make this our forever home. We enjoy the friendly and helpful residents here. Highland Estates offers a remarkable choice of activities including non-denominational church services and Catholic communion services, art classes, book club, transportation for weekly shopping trips, transportation for doctor’s visits, exercise classes, line dancing, movies, monthly trips to a restaurant, and a variety of games. We really enjoy the suburban atmosphere with a beautiful 3rd-story view of rolling, tree- covered hills. On the other hand, we’re minutes away from restaurants, shopping, and medical services in Cedar Park.

Review for Highland Estates

Most of the staff she liked (the kitchen servers and driver especially). Activities I know she didn't really feel the inclined to participate in. The couple things she did try she didn't really enjoy so she didn't return. Apartment was okay but rent prices were not worth it to her as they were rising. She didnt like the gray walls... with older eyesight she says that colors are more dim. And the gray made the rooms more dark (she would prefer brighter rooms and I'm thinking others may feel that way too). The food was the biggest problem for her. She really didn't like the food (there was one chef she liked, but they were there for a very short amount of time.). Her biggest wish was for healthier options... especially the salt level. Everything was often covered in salt and often meals lacked basic condiments so she would have to bring down her own. (I actually ate a couple meals with her and agree... the salt amount was overkill for sure). The last chef made better burgers than when she started though. So that was an improvement. Lastly, her second biggest complaint was the constant intercom going off. She was so used to quiet living, and then moving into a place that constantly had a loud speaker going every few hours really drove her crazy. The last thing I can remember was that there was just a lot of drama. She tried to stay away from it, but it was uncomfortable for her. Again, this is an honest review. Not trying to bash anyone. But she did not enjoy her stay and wanted to leave. I was hoping for a place she would enjoy and make friends, but it just wasn't the place for her.

Potential wasted.

The dining room .Allowing pets. Décor. What we didn't like was Standing in line for food. No variety in alternate dishes. The cleaning consisted of sweeping the floor only. Many people complaining. No medical person on premise. I believe they didn't enough staff. Security at night for help when needed.

Disappointed

Your Sodalis advertising is a joke. This place is not clean. The halls and the only elevator are filthy. The food is prison quality. Chefs don't stay very long. I've been sick frequently. Meals require standing in long lines. Portions are small and second servings are often denied. Healthy diets are often ignored. Average protein requirement of 12 grams per day is not being met. Transportation to shop or see a doctor is limited. About the only good staff person is the Activities Director, but in-house activities are few. My 355 sq. ft. room is basically a cell; one room with a tiny bathroom. For[fee removed] a month I could do better living on my own with a housekeeper and I am now looking for such a place.

Would recommend

The staff was very accommodating, thorough and pleasant. Everything they offered for the price was outstanding. The only reason I did not rate a five out of five is sometimes the food was a little inconsistent. On average flavorful and nutritious.

I am pleased for the most part. I am a picky eater. I do not always eat in the dining room. The water in the kitchen does not get hot. My housekeeper does a marvelous job. The people here are friendly and caring.

Friendly caring people

The apartments are decent sized and well maintained. The facility is always clean. It has an open feel to it. The people look out for each other. They organize activities that you have the option of attending or not. They provide transportation to and from doctor appointments. They provide transportation to and from grocery store if desired. They provide 3 meals a day with the cost of the apartment. The food is not top notch but it is decent. Overall, this place is a great place for any independent elderly people who would enjoy a sense of community.

Review for Highland Estates

The staff and community members are friendly, helpful and kind. The building and apartments are clean and well kept. Recently food service has changed and residents have to wait in line in a buffet style service. Additionally, the buffet dining service isn't what was being done at the time my mother signed up,and standing in line is hard for many of the residents.
