Review for Chateau McKinney

Overall, we are very pleased with our move to the Chateau. The food is good, and the serving sizes are good. The servers try their best and are caring. I'm sure this is a position that's hard to fill. The apartments are excellent, and the housekeeping staff does a great job. We're still emptying our house and haven't had time to join in the activities yet. I'm also interested in whether they have extra storage and what the cost is, but I just haven't had time to inquire.

Review for Chateau McKinney

From our initial visit to our subsequent visits the people really stood out. The staff was great but the people in the community really stood out to us. We met so many residents randomly and they took it upon themselves to let us know how much they loved living there and how wonderful of a community it was. It had become a family to them. Such a friendly, kind environment.

Peace of Mind

I would give the overall experience a 5. My dad has been at Chateau for about 16 months and has been happy since he moved in. Clean, quiet, friendly staff - just what my father was looking for. He has made friends and settled in very quickly. He moved from out of state and Chateau was extremely helpful in helping him get acclimated to his new surroundings. Helped us find him a primary care doctor for seniors. Chateau offers lots of activities should the resident be interested and does a good job of special events during holidays and seasons.

Living independently at Chateau

My sister is coming upon her one year anniversary there and, overall, is very happy there. As she says, "no place is perfect, but this place is a close 2nd." Her apartment is very nice and the property inside and out is well maintained. She really enjoys the staff and has made many friendships with the other residents. Her only comment that could be viewed a 'con' relates to the consistency of the food service. They have gone through a couple of chefs since she moved in. The food quality is fine but they have reorganized the menu a couple of times. She says thus far the changes have been positive.

Ask a lot of Questions before Signing a Lease.

We only lasted their six months due to the fact that The Chateau could not keep a chef with the food was getting worse over time. I am vegetarian and all mainstream research is now saying that as we age we should move to a plant-based diet, but there seem to be no connection or recognition for that need by the property management company or the owner of the corporation. I got to pay an extra $[removed] and some dollars a month for the pleasure of getting a salad with nothing on it except the occasional tomatoes. I had to bring my own healthy toppings so that I could get enough nutrition. The meal times are run like a prison, and anyone who comes late is shamed and made to leave. You are working with often times cognitively deficient, aging clientele, and so occasionally, and it didn't happen that often, you might have people coming late to a meal. They need to be treated with dignity, not shame. The outside grounds needed to be treated with more care, flowers were late being planted this spring, the yard in the back around the pool is lacking flowers. There are empty flower beds around rocks and such and muddy areas that I had offered to beautify but Management would not let me. My crushed granite that would've matched what was in other areas was not allowed. Help me understand that?? It would've been at my own expense too. Management seems kind but powerless to make needed changes. We came in with rent issues due to the fact that Management forgot to tell corporate that we had not moved in on the date that we were supposed to move in due to the fact that the renovations were not ready (by 6 weeks!). That let us too many many months of threatening letters from corporate and promises from management to get it fixed. It took four or five months to get it resolved. The renovations were based on a mid 20th century design; a 1970s remodel. Although two people, were going to be moving into our two bedroom two bath apartment, the primary bathroom had one sink, one plug (outlet) and one small towel holder. If you're going to renovate, put two sinks, two outlets (one on each side wall) and two each of a small towel holder and bath size towel holders. We had to ask for some of that to be put in, but of course they wouldn't put in the outlets or the extra sink. The faucets put in were brush nickel, which shows dried water stains. Why not put in a bronze type of faucet that doesn't show the stains? It's more updated anyway. When an elevator went out, it would be out for weeks. How is it possible that a building containing people as old as are in that building not get a priority to get the elevator fixed?? When we were there many of the activities on the monthly calendar were never done, but when that was brought to the Activity Director's attention, she mentioned that corporate forced them to leave them on there. The activities on the monthly calendar became a marketing tool for future residence, not for the residence who are currently there and wanting those particular activities to make. Many residents who were new came looking for tai chi, And some of the other activities that were listed monthly on the calendar. They were very disappointed and a bit angry to learn that those activities never were real. Have I mentioned how bad the food is? Again, we tried it, it did not work out for us because it was way too much money to pay for terrible food and poor management.

My parents are acclimating nicely.

The staff is very attentive to my parents needs and concerns since moving in about 6wks ago. The only concern would be for sales/operations to understand each others depts rolls. We’ve experienced a few inconsistencies due to our questions being asked to the wrong dept and not being conveyed to the appropriate dept. Generally, the residents appear to be very happy, kind, and willing to share their knowledge with the new incoming residents.

A good place to reside

The food quality reduced early this year, but has since improved. There are a variety of meal choices besides the beef/pork staples. Staff are most helpful in finding solutions to residents issues.

Met many new friends

Made many new friends since moving here. Age of residences varies from mid 60's to 100+. Enjoy this location as there is a good mix of single and married couples. From my view there are 50+ men out of the 200 residents. Facility recently went through a total renovation. Apartments have full kitchens, and space for full size washers and dryers.

Holiday Chateau for Relative

We located this facility for my sister who’s lost her house to a fire. She was initially going to move into an apartment. I convinced her to visit Holiday Chateau and another property. When she realized all the amenities offered and how much stress it would remove from her life, she agreed to give it a try. She chose Holiday Chateau over the other property due to its location, newly renovated apartment and pleasant staff. She has now decided to rebuild her home and sell it, as she plans to remain at HC. She enjoys the friends she has made at HC as well.
