The management particularly the administrator in charge (i can’t even tell you her name because every time I show up early in the morning I’m told she won’t be in until 1030.) and nurse [name removed] are an absolute disgrace and should not be allowed to work I healthcare, especially with elderly memory comprised residents. Just observing how these people interact with staff is shameful. They speak to the staff and some of the residents in a negative and derogatory manner which as a bystander I find to be disgusting. The facility is always understaffed and items always seem to be missing. Nurse [name removed] doesn’t have a clue how to speak to people and it amazes me how someone so verbally aggressive is allowed to work with these particular type or residents. Run from this place.

This place over promises and under delivers on a number of fronts. Very short staffed and poor / negative management make for a stressful living environment for my mother. With such high turnover, the continuity of care is inconsistent. If you do not live close and cannot check in on your parent, do not leave him/her there. The direct caregivers have hearts of gold and score high on friendly. The management not so friendly or warm.

My Tour Experience at Home of the Good Shepherd
We really liked the community. However, there was a waiting list and they called after we committed to another community already.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Memory Care. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know New York’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about New York’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.
