Good Vibes at IVEL
I would rate each of those categories at a 5. We have been very happy in regards to all of the above mentioned categories. The people in the facility give off a "friendly vibe" and are very genuine and caring. It is a clean facility and offers a variety of activities for all. My mother seems happy there and she hasn't "complained" about anything in the time she has been there.

Great Place -- Friendly, Loving Environment
This facility has a friendly, caring management team--they are welcoming and supportive. The staff members are professional, attentive, compassionate and always approachable. The staff know their residents by name and interact with them in a very friendly manner. It is a warm and vibrant environment with a daily schedule full of activities from which residents can choose to participate. If they choose, residents can be active and engaged all day long. The courtyards are decorated with beautiful flowers and have ample seating for residents to enjoy the outdoors. The food is great and most of the dining staff are friendly and know the residents' meal preferences. The residents look out for each other and truly care about their new friends! One area for improvement would be additional laundry machines but it is not a breaking point.

Caring, Compassionate, Family environment!
Needed a home like environment for Mom to relocate to. It was something we never experienced before and concerning as we needed it to be the right environment for Mom to be happy. We've been at IVEL several months and our needs have been exceeded. Mom treats IVEL like her own home and th residents and staff are our family. IVEL is truly a blessed environment in many ways!! Also very important, Mom loves the food! We don't have enough room to note all the positives so we'll sum it up with a sincere; Thank God for IVEL!!!

Food extravaganza!
I’ve gained so much weight since I got here. There’s so much food all the time and it’s so good! The other thing I like is people care and check on you for meals and other things. You’re never alone and it’s a real personal touch here. The caregivers have been great and makes me feel secure and safe compared to being home alone. After being home alone and falling and trying to fend for myself I love living here and feeling safe and being able to function better.

I highly recommend Independence Village of East Lansing!
My mother lived at Independence Village of East Lansing for about 5 years. While there [name removed] and her staff did an outstanding job! At first their goal was to make sure she was settled into her room and had everything she needed. Once she was settled in they got to know who she was and what she liked to do. With this information they plugged her into those activities. My mother’s favorite activity was music and dancing so she really enjoyed it when they brought in a band! They introduced her to others who also lived there plus she was able to eat her meals with different people. She also loved to write poems and [name removed] was always there to read what she had written. Thank you [name removed] and your wonderful staff who were also very kind to my wife and I when we visited mom.

Our Family's Experience
I would give a negative 100 for the food if I could. It is borderline not edible. It's either freezer burnt or almost expired in every instance I ate with her. She lost 20 lbs in 4 months and she's not a picky eater. Excluding the dining room staff, whom are rude and impatient with the people that need more time to process thoughts and eat slow, I would say most of the rest of the staff is incredible. We only had one incident where she had fallen in the bathroom at night, her call button didn't work and we found her at 2 in the afternoon when we went to visit her, which resulted in having to call an ambulance and a lengthy hospital stay due to the fact that she had hit her head when she fell. The activities they offer are incredible. They do a 'happy hour' every night with mocktails and cocktails, they have bingo, movies, card groups for quite a few games, outings and more. The manager, [name removed] and the assistant (I can never remember his name) are 2 of the most personable people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and they truly care about all the residents like they are there own family.

Above & Beyond
I love to walk, and having the trail so close is a big bonus. One of the best things about this place is the friendliness. I made a really good friend here right away, and she’s been checking up on me all day. That sense of connection is what really sets this place apart. I’ve been to a few other places, but none of them have the same atmosphere. When you walk in here, you immediately feel welcomed. The cute decorations on all the doors add such a nice touch, and the sales assistant even makes amazing door decor for new residents. What really surprised me, though, is how willing the staff is to help with literally anything. They go above and beyond, taking care of me in ways that are way beyond their duty. Location was also a huge deal for me. As I age, I don’t always remember everything, but knowing that everything I need is right around the corner is such a relief.

A Place With Great Staff (And Me)
This place is okay, but let’s be honest – the staff is what really makes it worth sticking around. They actually care, which is rare. I sometimes like to pick on them a little, but honestly, they’re great at what they do. I came here because I didn’t want to cook anymore, and that’s been the best part. The staff makes it feel like home – even if I give them a hard time about it. They genuinely try to make it a comfortable place for everyone, and it’s nice knowing they actually enjoy being here too. Lasting words: God loves you

Accessibility
I’ve known a lot of people who have lived here, and it turned out to be a great choice for me. Accessibility was a key factor, especially since I can’t do stairs anymore, and I found exactly what I needed. The fact that this community has 2 elevators was very appealing. I also got lucky with my tablemates – they’ve become like family. They’re so close-knit and truly look out for each other, so it’s tough when we lose someone. Another big plus is how close we are to Meijer. Sometimes it’s nice to just get away, and it's easy to do that whenever I need a break. Plus, I really appreciate having control over my own space. It’s been a solid fit for me.

Independent
I really appreciate the independence I have here. I came from a place where I couldn’t do anything without someone telling me what to do or where to go. This community gives me the freedom to go anywhere and do anything on my own. There are plenty of activities to enjoy—I especially like the exercise classes, even if I’m lazy sometimes and don’t feel like getting up! It still feels good to have the option and the encouragement to stay active. I’ve even made friends with my tablemates, which makes it feel like home. And I’m so glad I don’t have to cook anymore! I’ve shared some food suggestions with the food director, and she has been very receptive and eager to make improvements. It feels great to be heard and to be part of something positive.

I Feel Safe
I’m originally from Chicago, but when they decided to build a 21-story building in my neighborhood, my family and I ended up moving to Covert, Michigan. After my husband passed, my daughter wanted me to move closer to her, so I relocated again, and I’m glad I did. From what I can see, this community is very well planned, and most of the residents really enjoy living here. The services they offer aren’t something you find just anywhere. The staff are incredibly accommodating, the food is good (and you can always ask for more), and the service overall is excellent. I especially appreciate not having to cook anymore! What matters most here is the sense of safety. After living alone, it’s comforting to feel secure while still being independent. Everyone lives their own life, and you’re still in charge of yourself. You can speak for yourself, ask questions, and know you’ll be heard. They really listen and try to help and accommodate your needs.

Mom’s Doing Great Here
My mom moved into Independence Village of East Lansing a couple months ago, and she’s honestly thriving. She’s made friends, stays busy with activities, and even gets involved in stuff going on outside the building. She just seems more like herself—independent, confident, and happy. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen her this active and fulfilled. Really glad we made the move.
