Review for Madison Heights
Love most of staff they are caring people. Mom loved them too. I think it was because I was always there they didn't check her as often as I thought they should. I also disagree with the night shift being shallow to sleep. Many times they would sleep and not do hourly checks. I also they need a person on Duty 24 hours who can give meds like an antibiotic if needed. I feel more training and documentation needs to done. Every shift should know how to assess all the residents. That way they can be alert for problems. At the price of the facility they should pay staff a good enough and provide weekly meetings for discuss what each resident are doing and any problems.. also classes to gain new skills. If a patient has need for things ensure they should supply it for residents who can't eat the food they provide. Many times I would have to send them to find something Mom could eat. Activities should include the ones who are weak and bed bound. This was the 1st time I have been involved with Memory care I didn't see the level of needed care of Memory Care. Work. On helping fight to help keep memories from being loss.

Friendly, happy Madison Heights
I think Madison Heights is better than any place I checked in the Augusta/Columbia. County area. It is clean, smells good, has small pods so that residents don't get lost or overlooked. Care is personal and kind. Rooms area all private with en suite bathroom, closet and storage. Finally, it is well-priced ( considering that they all are EXPENSIVE). I know my wife is safe and well-cared for there.

Betrayal
Not a fan of manager. They went up on their price over a few months almost[amount removed]. Their air conditioning kept going out. They had a league right outside my friends door. They had several days or you could not flush the commode. Their food was without flavor. They had told me that she could eat in her room she didn't feel like coming to the table but they never wanted to take her food in her room. They were supposed to clean the room but she and I ended up cleaning it most of the time. They had a man who kept coming in the rooms of the female patients and when I told the director that he needed to put him in a walker that wouldn't fit through the rooms so that he couldn't go in there He told me that he would get my friend [name removed] a key. Later when I ask him about the key he asked me if she was going to lock and unlock the door and I told him that he knew that she couldn't do that or keep up with it. So then she had to get somebody to come and help her lock and unlock the door every time. He finally came in her room and used the bathroom floor and slept in her bed and went through her clothes. Even the aids were telling him about this particular man but he did nothing. When the hurricane came through all of those older people ended up sitting outside all day long for over a week. His generators weren't worth the price he paid for them and I was told by someone who worked there that when they ran out of gas he was busy helping his mother and he couldn't bring gas for the generators. Some of the help was not very helpful with the patients. I had ordered some things for her from Amazon that were delivered over there and when Amazon said they had come and I couldn't find them I asked [name removed] about it. He Tell me he checked and nothing was there but in the meantime one of the deliveries showed up in our bathroom so I asked about the other package and he said that it never came.

Great Activities!
My sister has been at Augusta Commons since [date removed] and she is happier there than she was at Madison Heights or Sodalis/Martinez. The activities director is excellent. She is so friendly and shows her love for all of the residents. It isn't fair for me to comment on the staff who take care of the residence because there was a complete turnover of staff by the time I took my sister out. There was also a new nurse so I shouldn't comment on her either. They have many great activities! They take them to lots of petting zoos. They upload pictures on their website.

Highly recommend wonderful homelike comfortable facility
My husband was well care for! He loved the food. They stayed with him all the way to his last moments to make sure he was clean and comfortable! They even made sure I was alright! It is a small home like facility it's made up of 4 small buildings! Each building is made to look like a house not a facility!

Almost like home
I live 4 hours away so I am basing these numbers on my loved ones reactions and experiences. My loved one had a rough time adjusting but has settled in finally. My loved one loves the caregivers, the food, and when I have been there it's clean and inviting. I rarely see the administrative staff so that's a hard one. But overall, my loved one seems content and they take good care of them. I am mainly pleased with the setup, 2 caregivers for 12 (at the most) residents. More one on one care. And it's almost like a house. My loves one thinks they are at her home most days. It really is a nice place!

Our Experience
My loved one is currently a resident at Madison Heights. This facility is only Alzheimer's/Dementia patients and the staff is trained to deal with their problems. They also have a qualified nurse on call, even on the weekends. My loved one has been here for about four months now and I have seen a huge difference in this facility versus her previous one. The last time I visited my loved one, the nurse saw me and told me that she had another infection and that she was already on medication. The nurse had noticed a change in my loved one's personality due to the UTI. At the last facility, I was the one who had to always report that she needed medication and that she had an infection. Also, Madison Heights quoted me a very fair price and said that they would keep it at this price for as long as my loved one is there.

Things to know about Madison Heights
I'd suggest to others, making several visits especially with second shift (3pm-11pm). I provided suggestions for improvement to the director, nurse manager, and staff. Things got a little better. However, my dear Mother passed away on [date removed]. In memory of her, I'd like to remain anonymous, please. Madison Heights had a wonderful and caring staff during the day (0700-3pm); only a few staff during 3-11pm (that really cared for the residents). I'm indebted to several staff members who provided exceptional care to my Mother.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Memory Care. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Georgia’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Georgia’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

A Place for Mom has scored Madison Heights 9.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
