There were several things going on with all of us. Sunrise went above and beyond to help us work through these issues; they even recommended a moving company that was able to help us out for a very quick move. The Dir of the Memory Care unit is excellent, and the woman who heads up the activities in this unit is incredible (her young children also get involved-it's lovely). We had an issue with the director, but she has since left the position. This has been a learning experience for us. MIL gets upset when she sees family, so we do not go over often, and we rely upon staff heavily. They use a SmileApp to keep in touch; it helps, though it has glitches. The billing system is not smooth. And a nasty surprise is that staff does not accompany a resident while the resident is in the ER, but that not a legal requirement in VA. Her dementia has unfortunately progressed over the past few years and she has become unsettled and hard to please. However, the way the staff has embraced her and cared for her is truly heartwarming. They have taken the time to understand her quirks and draw her out into activities. The Reminiscence Coordinator and Activities Director are wonderful and loving. They are truly building a loving community amongst the whole Reminiscence area. The Nursing staff is very caring and does a great job managing her prescriptions and monitoring her health.
