When my family member moved in, I understood that after two full years of private payment, she would be able to remain at the community once Medicaid began. I worked diligently for many months to ensure everything stayed on track so she could meet that two-year mark. As we approached that timeframe, I asked about assistance with the Medicaid process. While the community did not have an in-house advocate, I was provided with the contact information for someone who could help, and I began making arrangements. I felt encouraged that we were moving in the right direction. However, shortly before the holidays, I received unexpected news that changed the situation. The timing and shift in expectations were difficult to navigate, especially after planning carefully based on my initial understanding.
