Harmony is great

Wonderful home
My 87 year old mom was struggling to live alone due to blindness, dementia and loneliness, and after a fall, she decided to move to Harmony at Martinsburg to be closer to me and have some assistance while still having the independence of having her own apartment. She has been there for almost 4 months now and has flourished. She loves the activities and loves the people who assist her. When she first came to Harmony, she could barely walk across the room due to having had pneumonia and a broken arm. The therapists worked with her, and now she is walking so much better. I have not seen her this happy in years, and I feel very good about having her somewhere that cares about her.

Beautiful and fabulous home for your loved one.
Toured many Assisted Living facilities for our Mom, both in Maryland and West Virginia where I am located. Our Mom, from Annapolis, lost her partner of 45 years and has Alzheimer’s so we wanted a place with Memory Care in case it was needed in the future. We all loved what Harmony offered and it happened to be the closest to where I, her daughter, lives. A win win! Her apartment is amazing and she has been so happy there. She is starting her 3rd year and says she can’t imagine living anywhere else. The Staff are amazing and very attentive and I can sleep well knowing her every need is being met. Harmony has been an amazing alternative to her home where she is more than just cared for, but feels comfortable and loved. We feel so blessed to have her close by for visits and we know she is happy.

Daughter feeling at ease
She didn't like living on you own anymore. Here she is surrounded by friends and activities. There staff 24/7. So don't need to worry about her being alone and something happening. The staff have all been nice and caring

Excellent experience from staff and therapists.. Friendly staff. Clean room. Good laundry service. Food left a lot to be improved upon and insufficient staff. Reasonable activities. Excellent care, communication and leadership
I want people to know that, if they are looking for assisted living or memory care for their loved one, please check out Harmony at Martinsburg.
Harmony is very well staffed and they communicate well with family, we can see our loved one receiving good care
The location is ideal for us, halfway between my sister and myself, so we visited and toured the facility, it's a lovely rural setting.
The resident care leadership and staff are excellent, they understand and know how to take care of residents with Alzheimer's.

We would highly recommend -- over all the care was wonderful with only a few areas to improve.
He liked the music and singing activities. To improve, they need to have on hand end of life care sedatives to manage high agitation and pain for heart failure patients. He was on Hospice but the care facility did not recognize when our dad was struggling to breathe. He was in a lot of pain for days. The Hospice Doctor and did a great job when they were called in. Unfortunately meds were not ordered and on hand to meet needs over the weekend.

My mother was at Harmony for 17 months. As her dementia got worse they began documenting it as “bad behavior issues” and eventually kicked her out. They considered her crying to be a behavior issue. In the end they were cold and uncaring and very unprofessional. Their staff are not equipped or trained to handle memory care/dementia, especially [name removed]. I witnessed her be mean and unprofessional wirh residents in their facility. And, when I brought it to their attention they did nothing. If your loved one needs any assistance/support I would highly recommend you look elsewhere.

Great place with great people
Overall everyone is is friendly and helpful. I have taken many friends and family to visit. It is alway clean and in top shape. People can not believe it is a assisted living home no smells and clean. Everyone including resident are friendly and help makes everyone new feel at home. Meals are great and you order from a Menu not the normal food where everyone gets the same food. There are many activities and a theater with a movie every night. I visited many places around Martinsburg and Winchester. Great price compared to other places with less activities and not as clean.

Denied my mother a chance to live in memory care when she began to exhibit dimentia
Harmony at Martinsburg evicted my mother when she began to manifest signs of dementia, instead of transitioning her to their memory care unit, which was the declared and acknowledged intention when she moved in 6+ years ago. While I worked to relocate my mother to a new facility, communication from the Harmony at Martinsburg director was unreliable, cold, and unprofessional. The director also refused a request to meet in person so we could discuss my mother’s care and I could provide an update on my efforts to find my mother a new home. Harmony at Martinsburg was happy to take a substantial amount of my mother’s money every month, until they determined she was no longer worth the effort, and then they threw her out. Had I known then what I know now, I would NEVER have selected Harmony at Martinsburg as a place for my mother.

Do Not Recommend for Dementia Care
They knew coming in that my mother was in the late stages of dementia. After 6 months, they told us we had to take her to skilled care - nursing home. We took her to another dementia assisted living facility. [name removed]is not trained for later stages of dementia. They only want assisted living. They have too many policies that do not benefit the person with dementia. They use a point system and if you require too much care they ask you to leave. They should not be classified as dementia care.

Excellent and personalized care
I moved my mom to Harmony @ Martinsburg from Delaware. The care she is receiving here is exceptional. She was quite a difficult resident for several months. Along with her dementia, she was angry and could be aggressive. The staff were patient and loving. Checking on her frequently and encouraging her participation. As I'm writing this review, I'm sitting with my mom, who is happy and engaging. I highly recommend Harmony @ Martinsburg!

Wonderful Family Vibe
I experienced Harmony at Martinsburg as an entertainer for both the assisted living and memory care residents. My small company, Jensuya Belly Dance, presented a belly dance and live drumming show for the Egypt-themed dinner. In all of my interactions with staff at Harmony—from my discussions on the phone to the actual performance—I was struck by the compassion of the staff for the residents and the professional manner in which they interacted with me. The facility was peaceful and cheerful and lovely. I was amazed at how much love and energy the staff put into creating a meaningful event for the residents. It was truly an honor to be part of that special afternoon. What I particularly noticed that was different from other assisted living facilities that I have been to is that I never saw any residents sitting alone seemingly lost in a stupor. Everyone seemed "at home." ??

Family feel in a safe place.
This Harmony is so amazing. They met with our family and explained everything to us in detail. Mom was able to move in quickly and now we know she is in a safe place and has so much fun meeting with her new friends. As long as she is happy we are happy. And she is happy!!!

Great place to live and a lot of nice people. Both staff and residents are very friendly!
I have only been here for two months but I’m very impressed with the staff and services that are available and are very extensive. The grounds are well maintained with an ample number of rocking chairs and lawn furniture in the outdoors area there is a large outdoor cooking area. There is ample space for parking if the residents have a car.

Review Harmony at Martinsburg
Floors are always dirty esp in her room and her sheets are never changed. Commode is at times dirty and she never has water in her room to drink. Other wise they are kind give her good care .Wonder also how often she goes to activities. Seems to be in bed sleeping anytime we visit.

My past and present experience at Harmon at Martinsburg
My dear friend decided it was time to give up home ownership and move into an Assisted Living facility. We reached out to several but thankfully decided on Harmony. He was quite happy and enjoyed his new life here. However age caught up with him and was hospitalized and not a good diagnosis. All he wanted was to go home to his apartment at Harmony. The care, love and compassion showered upon him, myself and his family was truly a blessing for all.
Shortly after his passing I decided I too wanted to give up homeownership with all the responsibilities. I phoned Harmony and made an appointment with [name removed]. My daughter was impressed and happy with the facility and friendliness shown by all. I moved in on [date removed]. Again, I was welcomed back by staff and resident friends I had made previously. I have never looked back and am very happy and content here. I am going on 92 and am still active and am blessed with good health. I strongly feel this is where I need to be.
