Some Things are Wrong
My sister was admitted there by an activities staff member with no documention of her diagnoses. A nurse then dictated rules for my sister in relation to visitors that were not in sync with that outlined in the admission agreement. She was isolated from all family except for 2 people. "Treatment Team" meetings were basically non existent and family was asked to sign participation weeks or months after the fact. My sister and another resident were assigned work detail which included sweeping, mopping, picking up trash and cleaning tables. One staff was very hateful to residents and visitors. When asked for a copy of the Residents Handbook referred to in the admission agreement multiple times administrative staff did not know what we were talking about and when referral was made to the agreement papers they were totally unaware of it. After a change of power of attorney the nurse continued to provide information to parties that were no longer allowed information. She did eventually get fired as well as the staff member that was hateful and expected residents to work. We eventually removed my sister from Iris Memory Care and have been keeping her at home. We will soon need to place her in a care home. The non clinical staff were always friendly and helpful and my sister always praised them for the care they gave her and she felt safe. Also, the facility was very clean and well kept. Their management at corporate level needs an overhaul. They have an open door for lawsuits if that is something you are looking for. I worked 33 years in keeping a state facility in copmliance with all type of regulations and Iris is lacking.

Overall would recommend
Several nursing assistants were outstanding, several mediocre, and a rare few lazy. The outstanding ones individualized care, offering activities geared to individual needs. Residents were clean and well fed. Activities directors were a joke. The best activities were provided by a nursing assistant [name removed], with small groups of residents. Her creativity was amazing. Staffing was subpar. One NA and one med tech Per shift is inadequate. This was typical for day shift. I was there every day for 2-3 hours. As with all facilities, clinical staff change, and recommend going 'beyond' average staffing ratios and observing staff interactions with residents during meal times, activity times, and down times.

Kind and patient staff
I'm there on weekends and often the food is cold and difficult for people to eat. It would be better to have things that could be picked up easily, or cut up or easy to get onto a fork or spoon. My mom isn't eating much lately, but It can be a struggle for others and more work for the staff. I love that the staff is so upbeat and they seem to know the quirks and character of the individual residents. They are very kind and patient.

When I walked in the very first time it felt like "home
What we really like about Iris Memory Care is that they are prompt in inquires. When they realized that my dad was experiencing a medical issue they called me immediately and had him transported to the hospital. They keep me informed of any activity out of the norm. The main nurse gave me her personal cell for communication. She would send pictures of my dad while he was involved in daily activities. Based on the experience we have had so far we would absolutely recommend this community to other families.

This is a wonderful community. The staff communication with the family has been good anytime we have had questions or concerns. There are three meals a day served to the residents, and they have choices to choose from. The community could use more staff overall to assist with the care of the residents. Overall, it is a community I would recommend to others.

Caring Facility
The staff is very kind and caring, which we appreciate very much. The housekeeping does need some improvement. The floors are sticky and need mopping every time I go over there. They have a variety of activities, including quite a few events where families can come in, particularly around the holidays. They also have live music, pet therapy, and board games. I would just like to see a little more going on, and some of the things they have listed I don't see them doing.

A Pleasant Place for Mom
It was very clean, and I appreciated that a lot. Many retirement centers have a smell when you go in, but not this one. Everybody was always willing to help me when I went in. They always had some kind of activity going on somewhere. It was a good experience for both me and my mother.

Met our needs
We chose Heritage Point of Tulsa because they were allowing residents to have meals together and sit in a common room during the pandemic. In her room, there was enough room for a bed, dresser, table, and love seat. They do have private and shared rooms available. I would recommend them to others looking.

[name removed] is the Community Relations Director at Heritage Point. What set this facility apart that other facilities didn't mention was their dedicated room for inclement weather. No other facility mentioned this specifically. The tenant rooms seemed small-ish to me (270 sq. ft.). Every 2 hours they perform rounds, which is a plus. They do provide a small refrigerator in the room we were shown. This is a Memory Care facility only, which after discussion with the rest of my family, was decided wasn't quite needed with Dad just yet. Perhaps in the future, but just not at this time.

Do not recommend this facility
My father was prone to falls. We were required by Heritage Point administration to hire a sitter full time at $18/hour on top of the facility's monthly fee. We recently relocated him due to the fact that this became too expensive as well as the fact that the staff expected the sitter to do the job we were paying for Heritage Point to do. We often had to request for his room to be cleaned and his laundry went for long periods of time without being done. Very rarely were activities done with the residents and the food was often sub par.

Do not recommend this facility
Very disappointed in this facility. The activities are minimal and the residents do not get the special care the staff advertises. Often they are left on their own--especially in the evenings and weekends. The nursing staff are not well qualified--there were too many mistakes in the dispensation of medicines. Clothing and hearing aids lost on a regular basis. The layout is beautiful and it is very clean but that does not make up for the minimal care the residents get.

Sad
My mother has been there a year. They purport to be experts on Alzheimer's and Dementia. I do not know one resident living in my mother's building that does not have severe dementia. My mother has fallen 4 times in less than two months. I have had the aides ask me to watch her for them because they are busy doing something else. Not once did myself or several other family members think this was merely an AL home. We all thought it was a memory unit. The price has increased over 20% in one year.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Memory Care. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. A Place for Mom has scored Iris Memory Care Tulsa 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
