The staff were wonderful to my mom, especially the hospice people. I just wish they'd have kept her room a little neater. Every time I came by she was asking me to pick up for her.

Going much better than expected although it's expensive!

My Grandmother has been at Brookdale for some time now and things have gone much better than I though t it would go. She is enjoying the church services with her new found friends and even plays volley ball along with many other activities. One thing that is certainly concerning is the cost of the community although I know they are taking very good care of her. The staff are all very nice and friendly. The place is always clean. I'd recommend!

going really well

Things are going really well at Brookdale Bakersfield. The staff are really good. There is nurse is there and they are taking care of mom really well. They take care of the medication she needs and are very helpful and attentive. Mom had to go to the emergency room recently and the staff checked on her quite a bit. I am really happy with this facility.

My mother was very angry and apprehensive with the idea that my sisters and I wanted to move her to assisted living seven months after our father had died. Our mother needs 24/7 care because of serious memory issues. Out of the three of us sisters, only one of us could stay with her the majority of the time and this sister was getting extremely burnt out. After visiting Brookdale Bakersfield several times with mom at our side, she started softening about the idea of moving. Everyone, from the director to the staff, were so friendly and made mom feel so at home and welcomed. It is a beautiful facility with so much to do on a daily basis and they allow pets which was a real plus for her. She was very impressed and actually became excited to make the change. She has been there a week now. There is only one thing that concerns us and maybe its because she is still new. They have forgotten to come to her room a few times to take her to dinner. She doesn't have the memory to take herself. We are talking to the staff regarding this issue and are hoping it is just a small glitch and will get resolved quickly. Other than this one issue, we are very happy and excited that our mother can live out her last years peacefully in a clean, caring and safe environment. Thank you "A Place For Mom" for helping us find 'a place for mom'.

pleased

One area where the could improve would be to communicate with the families a little better during the move in process. It was easy to get a hold of them when we were checking them out, but not as much once we signed up and moved in. Other than that everything was pretty good and we have generally been well pleased with Brookdale Bakersfield.

fantastic

The marketing director at Brookdale Vacaville was really fantastic. She was very friendly and very enthusiastic. When my mother in law went in there, it was a bit scary for her. I do think that they could have given her a little more attention and helped ease her in a little better. That is my only suggestion. On the whole everything about them has been really great and I am thankful for them.

pretty good

Overall Brookdale Bakersfield is pretty good. My mother does complain a little bit about the food there. They have had a little bit of a turnover with staff recently with a new director, so I am hoping there will be some changes in the quality of the food they provide at their meals. We are also trying to work out a few kinks with the billing. Other than that everything is great. All the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and mom has really got in well with the other residents.

very friendly staff, communication could improve

The staff at Emeritus at Bakersfield is outstandingly friendly! Communication between here and at home could be improved. When i am visiting (as I am at this time) I am always able to ask questions and get information. When I am at home, however, it is a little harder to get information, and there have been a few times when I was told I would receive a call back and did not.

Very nice place, with a few issues

During the touring and selection process they were very helpful and attentive here, but I feel like once we moved in and they were paid they really dropped the ball when it came to the service. The director, who we'd been in communication with when we were touring never came to introduce herself after we moved in. Really there was no orientation or welcome of any kind, other than a note in the room. We had to wander around the community ourselves to find and introduce ourselves to her med-tech, and to get her set up with the medication service. And now that she has been there a few weeks we're still not very impressed with the care, we're still having to stay very involved and on top of things when it comes to her care. We'd hoped they'd be much more hands on and take some of the load off of our shoulders. All that being said, this is still a very nice community despite the lack of proactive communication from the staff. The caregivers themselves are all very friendly, and they've been doing a great job of getting her involved in the social activities. Just keep in mind that you'll need to keep an eye on your loved one's situation here.

They check on her all the time but don't have 24 hour RN's

The activities are a problem because mother just swears that there's no activities and the staff swears that she's going to activities but I don't know what is true. I do see lots of notifications for activities, the ones I see in progress there may be 4 or 5 people there; they do encourage her to participate and be active and they're very good about coming to get her and escorting her to meals and they come into her room to talk to her and check on her, and check on her frequently. We liked the friendliness of the staff, the appearance, when we're here there are people checking in on her all the time and that's really important. For the most part the care has been handled well, unfortunately I'm 2 hours away so I don't get to see her too often and we aren't really sure that she's going to the activities. You really have to be specific though, we were told they had 24 hour nursing and thought that meant RN nursing, but they have an RN on call at night and LVN's during the day so we're looking for a facility that has RN's full time.

Would have really loved to get our loved one here but they did not have any private rooms available. The community is really nice and beautiful. The only difference with this community and Emeritus at Rancho Solano would have been the convinience for our family to visit. I would recommend this community to anyone. Only reason we did not choose it was because of the lack of a private room available.

staff and facility

I was a companion care worker. The staff was very friendly and helpful in the two years I was there. They are professional and caring about there residents . I would place a loved one there . Administration works very closely with staff to ensure the best care for your loved one. They have outings and special events you can enjoy also. Activities are daily I would suggest to take a look you will be impressed .

The food was excellent, the service was good as well. What they could improve is they could clean the sheets more often, it smells awful. I have never seen anything like it before, and they only vacuum once a week. It should be at least twice a week. Everything else was good. though, the aides were nice.

Respite care

My father stayed here for two weeks ( respite ) and said it was 50/50 for him. His biggest complaint was that when he pressed the button for service, it would take up to 2 hours at times for someone to respond. Not good if you had an emergency. Clean, modern facilities and courteous staff. Once a caregiver arrived the service was excellent.

Would not recommend

The administrative staff tried to retroactively raise the level of care without consulting me. They sent my brother (the resident) to the ER and then refused to take him any personal effects after we decided to transfer him. They were quite uncooperative. The actual caregivers were very nice and kind to my brother.

not recommend with room for improvement.

Housekeeping in rooms very inconsistent. Understaffed. Do not have people or systems to care for residents in different stages of dementia/Alzheimer's. It has been constantly changing. We have to supplement with special foods my dad enjoys. I think it is a communication problem between the memory care staff and kitchen. They cater to those patience with severe dementia. Not those in the middle stages. While it is a beautiful facility we pay a lot of money for minimum care.
